CANON RELEASES TWO NEW COMPACT INSTALL LCOS PROJECTORS WELL-SUITED FOR BUSINESS AND EDUCATIONAL USE.

Selangor, 22 May 2014 – Canon, the world leader in digital imaging, is proud to announce two projectors in a new category of compact models packed with a host of features and designed to meet the changing needs of consumers. The XEED WUX450 (WUXGA, 1920x1200) and WX520 (WXGA+, 1440x900) are LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) business projectors with superior image quality and reduced maintenance requirements that are targeted at the rapidly growing market for compact install projectors. With these features and functions, the two new projectors will be well-suited to educational institutions, administrative boardrooms, and medical facilities

Crystal clear images
The core feature of a projector is the ability to project high quality images, and these new projectors are able to do so with Canon’s newly developed AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) 5.0 optical system. Another feature of AISYS 5.0 is its ability to project images with minimal loss of lamp light. Not only does this make the projected images brighter, it also results in a more efficient usage of energy and lower carbon dioxide emissions, making the XEED WUX450 and WX520 highly eco-friendly. The XEED WUX450 consumes energy at 0.081 watts per lumen and the XEED WX520 at 0.068 watts per lumen. This noteworthy energy efficiency is maintained when the projectors are on standby mode, as they have the lowest energy consumption among projectors in its class.

One unique benefit of XEED WUX450 and WX520 is the constant Fno of 2.8, which means the high brightness of the projectors (4,500lm for XEED WUX450 and 5,200lm for WX520) is maintained throughout their entire projection range from wide angle to telephoto. The constant Fno of 2.8 is also beneficial in terms of having a deep depth of field which means projected images’ sharp details are kept in focus even when the screen’s surface might be uneven.

These two projectors are also equipped with other image enhancement functions to improve their output. For example, fast-moving motions are projected sharply, thus enhancing the clarity of videos. The imaging engine also performs edge enhancement, giving human skin a smooth look while retaining crisp edges in human hair. Dynamic gamma correction detects dark areas in the image and brightens them to bring out more details, without affecting already well-lit areas.

Memory color correction can detect common colors such as skin color, blue skies, and greenery and then automatically adjusting their hues to the shades and saturation that the human eye perceives as attractive. As the XEED WUX450 and WX520 are primarily used in business environments, there are two functions that can make text incredibly easy to read. Diagonal line correction helps to accurately scale lower resolution source text up to the higher resolution quality of the projectors. Diagonal lines in fonts are recognized and maintained, avoiding the fuzzy and jagged edges of text in normal scaling functions. Letters of the alphabet are also recognized by the projectors, and are internally processed to be sharper and easier to read, with its character recognition edge enhancement feature.

For usage in the medical industry, the XEED WUX450 and WX520 support the DICOM color standard with two preset modes: blue base and clear base. Users can also adjust the color tone and temperature to their own preferences.

Outstanding usability
For greater convenience, the new XEED WUX450 and WX520 are designed to fit into a compact body. Measuring in at only 337 x 362 x 118mm (without protrusion) in size and weighing only 5.9kg, these projectors are far smaller and lighter than others in the same category.

Its compact size and design makes it incredibly flexible when it comes to installation options. With a flat top and bottom surface, as well as feet that can be attached to either sides, tthese projectors can be easily placed on a desktop, stacked, or mounted on a ceiling without any curved surfaces getting in the way. It can even be mounted for upwards or downwards projection. Anticipating the many ways this projector can be mounted, Canon has made the operation panel on the projectors more intuitive, and the arrow keys can be set to match the orientation of the projector, whether its upside-down or used as a rear-projector.

Should the projectors be installed at an angle from the screen, the four-point keystone correction is implemented to accurately correct the four corners of the projected image.

The two new projectors have other features to increase their usability in different situations, such as the unique Canon-only ability to simultaneously project two high-quality images from different digital sources. For example, the projectors can project a powerpoint presentation from a PC connected to their DVI port, while projecting an HD video from a Blu-Ray player connected to their HDMI port at the same time.

To project an extremely large image, two of these projectors can be linked together with each projector displaying a portion of the overall image. The Edge Blending function helps users to adjust the projections to overlap the two images in the middle and intelligently reduces the brightness of the overlapped area so that the resultant image is seamless without any additional brightness.

Professional durability
The bodies of the XEED WUX450 and WX520 projectors are designed to allow convenient access to replaceable parts, with a lamp cover and filter cover that is easy to open and close. Replacing the lamp and filter can be done even when the projectors are still mounted to the ceiling. The projectors also boast of a lamp lifespan of 3000/5000 hours, and air filter which lasts about 12,000 hours. Future firmware updates can be downloaded into a USB flash drive and installed into the projectors via the USB terminal.

Development Announcement - XEED WUX400ST and WX450ST
Canon is currently developing two projector models- WUX400ST and WX450ST. The WUX400ST and WX450ST are short throw projectors equipped with lens shift functionality, housed in an unprecedented compact body. Unique characteristics include superior installability, high-level brightness, and high resolution. More information on these models will be announced in late 2014.

The XEED WUX450 and XEED WX520 projectors are now available at a RRP of RM 20,800 and RM 18,800 respectively.

THE NEW CANON XF205 AND XF200 PROFESSIONAL FULL HD CAMCORDERS DELIVER SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND ENHANCED OPERABILITY

Selangor, 22 May 2014—Canon announced today the introduction of the XF205 and XF200 compact professional-model Full HD camcorders that achieve significantly enhanced performance.

Positioned above the XF105/XF100 models launched in February 2011, the new XF205/XF200 incorporate the same upgraded zoom lens, CMOS sensor, and image processing platform employed in the latest XA25/XA20 models launched in June 2013. In addition to offering greatly improved performance compared with the XF105/XF100, both the new XF205/XF200 have a compact and lightweight body design. Realising advanced operability and expanded network connectivity, the camcorders cater to a wide range of professional shooting demands, from the production of broadcasting content such as news and documentaries, to wedding, and other event videos.

The XF205/XF200 feature a wide-angle 26.8 mm (35 mm film equivalent) 20x optical zoom lens incorporating a Hi-UD (High Index Ultra Low Dispersion) glass lens elements that highly reduces chromatic aberrations. Additionally, the lens is equipped with an eight-bladed circular aperture that employs the same EMD (Electro Magnetic Diaphragm) technology used in Canon EF lenses that create more natural, attractive blur qualities in areas of the image which are not in focus.

In comparison with the XF105/XF100, the enhanced performance of XF205/XF200 support two recording formats—MXF, the standard file format used by broadcast stations, and MP4, which offers high versatility through its compatibility with various devices. Furthermore, the new camcorders achieve an even more compact, lightweight body that is approximately 58% the mass and volume of the XF305/XF300 models launched in June 2010.

In addition to its compact size, the XF205/XF200, like the XF305/XF300, include three dedicated focus, zoom, and aperture lens rings. Furthermore, the XF205/XF200 are equipped with a handgrip that is capable of a 120º angle of rotation for outstanding operability to facilitate handheld shooting in a variety of situations and from almost any angle.

Incorporating an Ethernet LAN terminal that enables a reliable wired connection in addition to wireless LAN connectivity support, these new Canon camcorders allow users to select the most ideal network connection method that best suits their needs.

Canon iMage Gateway Service Reaches Out across South Asia & Southeast Asia

Selangor, 21 April 2014 - Sharing high quality videos, uploading photos and interacting with others online has just become easier, more convenient, and so much fun! Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Canon) has today proudly announced that its Canon iMage Gateway (CiG) service, a free online photo-sharing service is expanding its reach across the South Asian and Southeast Asian regions. Now, not only is CiG is available in various countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam; it also offers improved features which users will appreciate such as large photo storage space and easier sharing options that promotes interaction between users and visitors to the service.

“The Canon iMage Gateway provides our users with 10GB of free album storage. This means, everyone can now take all the pictures and videos they want and not worry about storage space. In addition, Canon iMage Gateway allows you to tag and rotate your pictures as well as to create or share your albums, amongst its many amazing features. Larger storage, enhanced management
For each account, CiG users are presented with an impressive 10GB of free storage – an unparalleled size when compared with other providers. Loosely translated, this means that users are able to store about 13,000 4R-sized photos (4” x 6”) of 6 to 10 megapixels each, or between 6 to 24 hours of video at 1 to 4Mbps each in their storage library.

Managing your CiG account is also easy and secure. Among other features, users can create photo albums from their photo library for easy sharing with family and friends, as well as print directly from their account using print solutions that are linked to Canon printers.

Besides that, a host of options are available for users to set their preferred privacy settings. For example, users can configure the settings to allow or disallow others to download or print their photos, add comments, and/or add images to their albums. Meanwhile, account holders using Canon cameras or camcorders with built-in Wi-Fi have an added advantage in using CiG. Apart from allowing them to share their photos conveniently after saving them to an online photo album, users are also able to transfer images and videos straight to their computer via a wireless network. By selecting an option on the Image Sync Function, users can switch automatically between cloud-based servers and a specified computer on the same wireless network. This allows users to save on time and energy as images uploaded to CiG can be downloaded to their computer automatically.

High quality interaction
Now, with Google Drive as a new save destination, users can save their photos in the original resolution in either JPEG or CR2 format. Additionally, CiG also supports videos in MOV, MP4 and AVI formats with a limit of 15 minutes or 2GB per video.

In promoting knowledge and interaction between users and visitors, CiG can be set to allow the display of technical information about each photo. Viewers are able to see which camera model is used to capture the photo, as well as its lens and exposure settings such as ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Users of selected Canon digital compact cameras, DSLRs and digital video are able to access the CiG free of charge at the links below. All they would have to do is register once with CiG to enjoy its service. However, should an account be inactive for a year, the CiG’s automated maintenance facility will delete all data within the account. An email notification will be sent prior to that.

Canon Launches Five New Compact Digital Cameras in PowerShot and IXUS range

Selangor, 8 April 2013: Professional photographers, travellers and even the most casual of users will certainly have something to look forward to in Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s latest launch of compact digital cameras. Joining Canon’s comprehensive range of PowerShot and IXUS camera series are five new and exciting models – the flagship model PowerShot G1 X Mark II, PowerShot SX700 HS, PowerShot D30, and IXUS 155 and 145.

Professional quality and enhanced creativity in the palm of your hand
The PowerShot G1 X Mark II offers users more powerful and advanced capabilities than its predecessor, incorporating high-end features that deliver superior images comparable to that of an interchangeable lens camera.

Its large 1.5” type CMOS sensor is approximately 4.5 times larger than the size of existing 1/1.7” type sensors in other compact cameras. Together with its high pixel count of 12.8-megapixel (3:2 aspect ratio), 9 blade aperture lens (f/2.0-3.9) and 5x zoom lens (24-120mm equivalent), professionals and tech-savvy photographers are able to capture immensely beautiful imagery and create stunning bokeh effects, all with the convenience a compact camera affords. Meanwhile, its 31-point AF system makes for an enhanced autofocus (AiAF) performance, allowing users to focus more accurately on subjects, even when positioned in the outer corners of the framing area.

The design of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II is no less impressive. Innovative and convenient, it features dual control rings that give users added control when shooting. All they would need to do is to customise the inner step ring to instantly adjust shutter speed, aperture or exposure value settings, and the outer continuous ring to make fine manual focus adjustments or other customisable setting adjustments.

Users are also given ample leeway to test their creativity and skills, thanks to the PowerShot G1 X Mark II’s Creative Shot function and Star Mode. The Creative Shot function allows users to capture the same shot in six variants from an array of 46 different creative filters including Retro, Monochrome, Special and Natural. The function intelligently analyses the scene and automatically selects the best suited creative filter.

Meanwhile, the Star Mode allows users to capture breathtaking night shots with functions such as Star Nightscape that capture stars and sceneries at optimal brightness, Star Trail that shoots stars with trails, and the advanced Star Time-Lapse movie where movement of the stars can be beautifully captured in a movie. The newly added Star Portrait function captures three images consecutively, then automatically composites them to achieve a final image where human subject and starry sky are optimally lit and emphasised.

Users needing different capture angles, be they extremely high or low, or those who love taking ‘selfies’ will be delighted with the PowerShot G1 X Mark II’s unique tilt screen LCD panel. It can be tilted up to 180 degrees for great ‘selfie’ shots, and downwards to 45 degrees, enabling them greater freedom while framing shots.

Furthermore, users also have the option to attach an Electronic View Finder (EVF) to the hot shoe. Instead of using the PowerShot G1 X Mark II’s high-precision XGA resolution LCD with 2.36 million dots, the optional EVF makes it easier to shoot in bright daylight, as it greatly reduces glare. Not using the camera’s LCD will also help preserve battery life.

Canon Delights Consumers with New Compact Digital Camera and Photo Printer

 In bringing its consumers’ experience of capturing precious moments to yet another level, Canon, the world leader in Digital Imaging has proudly announced the launch of two new and innovative products – the PowerShot S200 compact digital camera and SELPHY CP910 Compact Photo Printer.

Capturing moments
An introductory model, the PowerShot S200 effectively combines supreme imaging capabilities with a slim pocket-sized camera body. This feature-packed camera is easy to use and designed to help users make full use of its features, making it an ideal solution for those who want to start taking more control over their images instead of just relying on Auto mode. With its intuitive Controller Wheel and Control Ring, users are able to adjust the exposure, ISO, zoom and shutter speed settings quickly and conveniently to start shooting like a pro.

The PowerShot S200 also incorporates Canon’s proprietary DIGIC 5 imaging processor, allowing users to evaluate and optimise the quality of images captured. It also features a 10.1 megapixel high-sensitivity CCD sensor and 5x 24-120mm f/2.0 (w) optical zoom lens for increased depth-of-field in images.

Canon Launches Legria Mini X for Photo Journalists, Bloggers and Performers

The world of blogging, recording and publicising is now all the more exciting with Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Canon)’s latest addition to its Legria Mini Series – the Legria Mini X. With its enhanced features and increased portability, the Legria Mini X offers photo journalists, bloggers and performers a heightened user experience that blend in seamlessly with their trade and lifestyles.

Featuring a new sleek design, the Legria Mini X is incredibly compact and lightweight, allowing users to carry it easily and conveniently in their pockets whenever they are out and about. IBM inventors received more than 6,800 U.S. patents in 2013 including 3 from Malaysia

PETALING JAYA 27 Jan 2014:  IBM (NYSE: IBM) inventors received a record-setting 6,809 patents for 2013, making it the 21st consecutive year the company topped the annual list of U.S. patent leaders. The 6,809 patents included three that were awarded to Malaysian teams whose inventions have helped our clients improve their business processes.

The three local patents were for the following inventions: automated paper consumption tracking and auditing;  message oriented construction of web services; and, spacer and process to enhance the strain in the channel with stress liner.

In addition, features like the HDD Data Erase function and Encryption address data security and privacy concerns as users are able to overwrite the image data up to nine times to ensure that confidential information can never be retrieved.

Canon EOS-1D C First Digital SLR Camera to Meet EBU HD Tier 1 Imaging Requirements for Broadcast Production

Kuala Lumpur, 4 December 2013 – Canon today announced that the EOS-1D C digital SLR camera, part of the company’s Cinema EOS System lineup of digital cinematography products, has been independently tested in accordance with European Broadcasting Union (EBU)1 standards for HD content acquisition.2 The tests found that the EOS-1D C is the first digital SLR camera to meet the stringent testing criteria for HD production.

Results indicated that the EOS-1D C provides “exceptional” HD resolution from a 4K source with “very low” aliasing, and “good” color performance and motion portrayal. The test results also confirmed that the EOS-1D C camera system and its imaging performance comply with the recommended specification for inclusion in HD Tier 1 for HD production.3

A new firmware update for the EOS-1D C is available now and it enables the camera to correct insufficient peripheral illumination and chromatic aberration when outfitted with supporting EF Cinema Lenses4. The update also allows the EOS-1D C to accept a line-level audio input via its mini 3.5mm connector as well as improved flicker reduction.

Additionally, an enhanced version of the EOS-1D C’s dedicated EOS Movie Utility software for both Macintosh5 and Windows6, will be made available at the end of December. This includes a Mac-version video playback function and the ability to capture consecutive still images from a video file.

Canon will continue to strive to enhance the functionality of its Cinema EOS System, to further expand the realm of visual expression and the development of cinematic culture.

Canon Launches Three New Stylish PIXMA Photo All-in-One Printers

Those looking to heighten their photo printing experience will be delighted with Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Canon)’s latest top-of-the-range PIXMA Photo All-in-One (AIO) printers – the MG7170, MG6470 and MG5570. A new PIXMA Printing Solutions app is also available for iOS and Android OS users. Through the app, users can access the PIXMA Cloud Link facility, send print jobs to the printers straight from their mobile devices, as well as transfer data back to their devices. Not only will this help users to conserve paper; this feature also allows for greater flexibility and mobility for those who are constantly on-the-go. Users can also easily access the online manual, check their ink status as well as perform routine printer maintenance such as printhead cleaning via the app!

The sleek low-style and compact design of the PIXMA photo printers allows users to place them in small workplaces, thus maximising space in the home. Instead of being purely utilitarian, these printers have also been designed to accentuate the home’s interior. The flagship MG7170 comes in bold colours of black, brown and red, while the stylish MG6470 and MG5570 models are available in timeless black and white colours.

Quality and Fast Printing Technology
Using Canon’s Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) technology, these printers are equipped with microscopic nozzles that deliver tiny drops of ink, rendering stunning prints. The MG7170 is able to generate prints with a resolution of up to 9600 x 2400dpi with minimum 1pl ink droplets, while the MG6470 and MG5570 can produce outputs of up to 4800 x 1200dpi with minimum 2pl ink droplets.

All three models utilise a Hybrid Ink system which optimise the use of both pigment black and colour dye ink for high quality prints. The quality of output is enhanced further by Canon’s ChromaLife100+ technology that helps preserve the lifespan of photos and documents by protecting them against light, gases and humidity. Photos can last up to 300 years when stored in a photo album.

Excellent quality prints can be generated very quickly as well. The MG7170 can print up to 10 images per minute (ipm) in colour and takes just 21 seconds to produce a 4 x 6” borderless photo. Meanwhile, the MG6470 and MG5570 are able to print a borderless photo of the same size in 44 seconds.

Efficient and User-friendly
With the Auto Power ON function, the printers will be automatically switched on as soon as a print job is sent, and will switch off automatically when it has been left idle for a period of time. Besides that, all three PIXMA models also support double-sided printing and the use of XL-sized cartridges. These features combined greatly help to save power and resources, which will translate into substantial cost savings for users in turn.

Featuring the latest upgrade to Canon’s Intelligent Touch System, all three PIXMA Photo AIO models come equipped with a high-sensitivity touch-operated control panel and LCD display. With this system, only the keys specific to the current operation will be illuminated, making printing and scanning a breeze.

Canon Launches Exclusive Retail Store in Penang

To fulfil the needs of its consumers better, Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd (Canon), Malaysia’s leading imaging solutions provider has proudly launched its exclusive retail store, Image Square in Penang. Located at the UNESCO heritage building on Jalan Burmah, Image Square is Canon’s first store of its kind in Malaysia’s northern region. The building features a total of 7,355 square feet with the entire ground floor dedicated for all Canon imaging products.  

Present at the launch was guest of honour YB Puan Lim Siew Khim, ADUN Sungai Pinang. Also in attendance were Mr Lim Kim Cheei, PKT, Managing Director of Winsion Photo Trading Sdn Bhd; and Mr Melvyn Ho, President and CEO, Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd. Apart from the ribbon cutting ceremony, the event was also highlighted by a lion dance performance and culminated with a tour around Image Square.
