Trend Micro New Affinity Program Focuses on Greater IT Solutions

Collaborative efforts between CSC Malaysia Sdn Bhd, HeiTech Padu Berhad and Mesiniaga Berhad bring new dimensions in addressing IT solutions

Kuala Lumpur, March 15, 2012 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cloud security leader today announced a new partnership involving three platinum partners CSC Malaysia Sdn Bhd, HeiTech Padu Berhad and Mesiniaga Berhad as part of the New Affinity Program. This partnership marks a new milestone in serving the needs of small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) who are looking for strategic IT solutions and upgrading of technological capabilities.

Small and medium sized enterprises have been ear-marked as one of Malaysia's key drivers for economic growth. Based on the SME Report 2010/2011, latest statistics indicates that SMEs constitute 99.2 percent of the total business establishments and contribute about 32 percent of GDP and 59 percent of total employment. In line with this development, more and more SMEs are venturing towards cloud based technology to enhance competitiveness. This means there is a high potential for SMEs to be vulnerable towards cloud based threats such as identification theft and data breach in organizations. These threats can cause substantial financial loss and via this partnership Trend Micro aim to provide solutions for security content and threat management.(L-R) Mr. Dennis Koh, Managing Director, CSC Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Tuan Haji Safiee bin Mohammad, Executive Director, HeiTech Padu Berhad and Mr. Wong Keng Hoe, Director, Project Management & Solution Marketing, Mesiniaga Berhad, Mr. Goh Chee Hoh, Managing Director, SEA region, Trend Micro

Migration to the cloud continues while threat landscape evolves
According to a study by Gartner, Inc., penetration of cloud email and collaboration services will stand at 10 percent and broader scale adoption will be under way by the end of 2014. Additionally, a study conducted by Forrester Consulting shows that cloud computing adoption has continued to accelerate in the Asia Pacific and Japan region, with close to 90 percent of respondents viewing cloud technology as relevant to their business. Nevertheless, 74 percent of respondents indicated that data privacy is the main obstacle to cloud adoption among organizations.

Gartner predicts that by 2016, at least 50 percent of enterprise email users will rely primarily on a browser, tablet, or mobile client, instead of a desktop client. The huge growth in consumerization or Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) presents significant new security challenges for enterprises as IT managers have little control over those new endpoints.

The global security industry is at the crossroads, facing a complicated horizon that covers an escalation of targeted attacks against companies; growth in the use of unsecured personal mobile devices; and cloud implementations where data can be accessed anytime and anywhere. Another concern is the proliferation of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), referring to persistent attacks on specific targets that covert to access sensitive information such as intellectual property, negotiation strategies, or payment card information. The trend shows SMEs, which have higher risk in intellectual property security, have become an easy target for APTs.
