TM brings home 4 awards for the night
The awards list for Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) gets longer when the Company recently took home the Service Provider of the Year award at 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards. This achievement is even more meaningful as this is the first time TM clinched the most prestigious award of the night after its demerger exercise in 2008.
To add to the list, TM also won three (3) other awards - Broadband Service Provider of the Year, Data Communications Service Provider of the Year, Managed Service Provider of the Year for its subsidiary, VADS Berhad.

Present to accept the awards on behalf of the Company were Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM who accepted the Service Provider of the Year award, Datuk Bazlan Osman, Executive Director / Group Chief Financial Officer; and Ahmad Azhar Yahya, Chief Executive Officer, VADS Berhad.
Commenting on the win, Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani said, “We are very honoured and proud to receive the highest recognition for the night. In 2006 and 2007, we also won the best of the best award, but that was before the demerger and we jointly won it with another company. This time around, we won the Service Provider of the Year award on our own, as a pure fixed line and broadband player. It shows that we have come a long way since the demerger and further proves that we are indeed Malaysia’s Broadband Champion and leading integrated ICT provider. These four awards are for each and everyone of the 27,000 warga TM who have worked so hard to make this possible!”
“2011 was a great year for TM. Internet and Multimedia business grew by more than 20 percent. The nationwide HSBB reach passed 1.16 million homes. The Company activated over 230,000 UniFi subscribers which is highest in South East Asia. Last year, TM also doubled its hotspots to 20,000. The operator’s continued operational improvements led to higher operating revenue, capex efficiency and better EBITDA margin. As a result, it was able to secure 29.3% revenue and 22.6% EBITDA net add market shares in 2012. With this continued leadership position, they are the deserving Frost & Sullivan Service Provider of the Year,” said Vikas Chanani, Industry Analyst – Mobile and Wireless, Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technologies Practice, Frost & Sullivan.
In addition to that, this year’s achievement was complemented with TM bringing back the Broadband Service Provider of the Year award for the 7th time, strengthening its footing in the domestic broadband market with the roll-out of its High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, under the brand name UniFi which has just celebrated its 2nd anniversary last month.
Vikas Chanani was quoted as saying, “It is yet another successful year for TM by carrying the flag for increased penetration of high speed broadband in the country. On an average they continue to add 20,000 new customers a month, making Malaysia the fastest growing FTTH market in South East Asia. The high uptake of their UniFi service which is selling like pancakes, shows that the country population hungers for high speed broadband to support the new dynamic lifestyle. TM demonstrated a phenomenal broadband subscriber growth of 12.3 percent last year and currently has a total of 1.9 million broadband subscribers. Broadband leader and champion: TM is the 2012 Broadband Service Provider of the Year.”
Aside from taking home the Broadband Service Provider of the Year, TM has been acknowledged for the Data Communications Service Provider category for the 8th time, reflecting the Company’s outstanding performance in its business segments and for notably enhancing the industry as a whole. In addition, TM also clinched the Managed Service Provider of the Year award for the 4th time, which portrayed TM’s emphasis and attention on every segment that it serves, including Enterprises, by providing the best managed services to the market.
"TM maintains its leadership position in Malaysia Data Communications with three-quarter of the market share in 2011. Its leadership position is largely contributed by its comprehensive portfolio designed for Corporate / Government and SMBs. In 2011, the company focused on migrating customers from legacy to IP-based services, which proved to be a strong growth engine for the company. TM worked closely with VADS to offer value added services over data communications by bundling managed services to create greater value proposition. It is also a critical element of the ongoing HSBB implementation in the country. The comprehensive portfolio; stringent SLAs; global and domestic coverage; and double digit growth in 2011 have positioned it as the 2012 Malaysia Data Communications Service Provider of the Year," Mayank Kapoor, Industry Analyst – Datacenter and Cloud Computing, Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technologies Practice, Frost & Sullivan, acknowledging TM’s win.
The analyst also recognised VADS’ achievement once again as the Managed Service Provider of the Year, “VADS has an end-to-end managed services portfolio that includes Hosting, Security, Managed WAN optimization and Unified Communications, served from its fourteen hosting facilities across Malaysia. During 2011, the company has taken its market leadership forward in collaboration with Cisco to build Malaysia’s first Telepresence exchange and expanded its cloud services by adding Microsoft 365 to its portfolio. VADS continues to be the trusted partner for large enterprises across the country, with Maybank, CIMB, AmBank, MAS, Petronas, and others as clients. As a result of continuing enhancement in its portfolio, strong client satisfaction and double digit revenue growth, VADS has been adjudged as the Managed Services Provider of the Year again."
TM’s big sweep at 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards is testament to TM’s proven track record of performance and service, and also serve as a boost for TM to continue offering more innovative, effective and cost-efficient solutions for not only Malaysian consumers, but also to empower Malaysian businesses regardless of its size. By offering scalable, future-proof communications solutions such as UniFi, Metro-e and IPVPN, TM provides mass consumers, SMEs, enterprises and corporations, with secured and reliable communications services and network, and thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
“This year marks the second anniversary of our HSBB service, UniFi, for which we have already received both domestic and global recognition. The progress has frankly exceeded all expectations with customers surpassing 325,000 nationwide and with coverage areas steadily expanding, TM is indeed very happy with these achievements and grateful to all our customers for their continued trust in us in delivering an enhanced and integrated digital lifestyle to Malaysian homes and businesses,” Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani enthused.
