Fortinet Appoints Michelle Ong as Country Manager in Malaysia

MALAYSIA - 26 May, 2014 – Fortinet − a world leader in high-performance network security − today announced that it has appointed a new country manager in Malaysia. Industry veteran Michelle Ong will now oversee Fortinet Malaysia's overall operations and take responsibility for developing and growing the vendor's business in the country.

Ong assumes the reins from Dato' Seri George Chang, who will relinquish his acting country manager position to focus on his role as Fortinet's Vice President for Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.

As head of sales for channel and government accounts in Malaysia for the past two years, Ong has steadily developed Fortinet's traction in these sectors while effectively managing clients, partners and the internal team.

"Ong has left no doubt about her ability to lead and grow a highly experienced team," said Dato' Seri George Chang. "I am confident that under her stewardship, Fortinet will continue to thrive and make inroads into the high-end enterprise, government, financial services and service provider sectors, gaining market share and picking up awards along the way."

Just last month, Fortinet won the Frost & Sullivan Malaysian Network Security Vendor of the Year award for its market share leadership, product innovation and consistent efforts in meeting customer needs.

Ong has held senior sales, marketing and account management roles in prominent technology companies including McAfee, ACA Pacific Technology and MGE Asia. She is well-versed in both vendor and channel business dynamics, and has a track record of success in motivating teams and helping customers attain their business objectives.

"The Malaysian market is expanding rapidly and the opportunity to help enterprises meet their security needs with Fortinet's trusted, end-to-end portfolio has never been greater," said Ong. "I am excited to be leading the team at this time and look forward to making a positive impact on our customers' businesses throughout the country."

Frost & Sullivan Awards “Data Centre Services Provider of the Year” to AIMS Group

Leading carrier-neutral data centre bags prestigious industry recognition; Innovative solutions and customer service mark key contributors for win

Kuala Lumpur, 16 April 2014 – The AIMS Group (‘AIMS’), Malaysia and South East Asia’s leading carrier-neutral data centre and managed services provider, today announces that they have been awarded the prestigious 2014 Frost & Sullivan “Data Centre Services Provider of the Year”.

This win was received by the data centre at the annual Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards that was held on 15th April 2014 at the Traders Hotel, Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya, Johor.

Each year, the Frost & Sullivan Malaysian Excellence Awards is held to provide recognition to organisations which have surpassed market expectations by exhibiting outstanding performance in their respective industries in the country.

Currently in its 10th year, the Frost & Sullivan award continues to place emphasis on various select areas that drive corporate excellence - such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.

Chiew Kok Hin, the CEO of the AIMS Group says, “It’s an honour for AIMS to once again receive the Data Centre Provider of the Year Award for 2014 from Frost and Sullivan. It’s been a remarkable year for AIMS as we continued to achieve double digit growth with a 16 percent increase in revenue in 2013. This award is a feather in the cap to our efforts to be the top data centre in the country.”

Mayank Kapoor, the Industry Manager for Information & Communication Technologies at Frost & Sullivan says, “AIMS has exhibited its capability to provide a full spectrum of data centre services, and creates synergistic value for each engagement with their strategic partners to offering flexible pricing options to its data centre customers.”

“AIMS commitment to sustainability that has made it the first Malaysian data centre services provider to implement the environmental-friendly Dynamic Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (DRUPS). The company’s well rounded services offerings, state of the art data centre and innovative solutions were the lynchpins for its success in 2013.”

“Our proactive expansion both in Kuala Lumpur and the launch of our new data centre in Cyber Jaya (at the end of 2012), was a key factor in boosting the company’s achievement in 2013,” shares Chiew.

Today, the AIMS Group remains one of the most connected data centre in Malaysia, with direct sites located in central Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Johor and Sabah – totalling over 50,000 square feet of data center space. All of these sites are solidly connected to all major regionals via the most diverse (being ‘carrier-neutral’) connectivity networks, in order to serve over 300 corporate clients from various industries.

Kapoor adds, “By bringing on board multiple carriers, carrier neutral data centres like AIMS, establish a unique value proposition in the market by offering customers the ability to work with any carrier of their choice instead of being tied down to a particular telecommunications service provider.”

“Carrier-neutral data centres are also more adept at providing higher network redundancy due to their non-reliance on any single telco provider – thus attracting a wider array of customers from industry verticals such as media, multi-nationals, tourism, content, gaming and more.”

Chiew says, “We have always emphasized carrier-neutrality as a crucial network infrastructure to support our range of managed services for our customers. Our efforts to remain carrier neutral have paid off as today we have been recognised by Frost & Sullivan for our ability to provide customers with choice and flexibility.”

“AIMS truly believes that this sets us apart from our competitors as customers are always looking for the best options to access and transfer all the data traffic to and from their hosted sites. We would also like to thank our customers for continuing to place their trust on AIMS. We will continue to work hand in hand with our customers to provide them with customisations that can help set their business ahead of the game,” ends Chiew.

WatchGuard Technologies Extends Ground Breaking Real-Time Network Security Visibility Tool to Microsoft’s Hyper-V Platform

• WatchGuard Dimension now includes unlimited scalability and availability, intuitive reporting enhancements, and new language support
• Sees 28.6 percent year-on-year growth in Malaysia, increasing focus on larger corporations

KUALA LUMPUR – February 2, 2014 – WatchGuard® Technologies, a leader in integrated security platforms, today announced it is enhancing its real-time network security visibility solution, WatchGuard Dimension™, which has already helped the company grow net billings worldwide by 23 percent in Q4, when compared to the fourth quarter of 2012 – a new company record. The new enhancements extend Dimension’s capabilities to support Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualization platform, in addition to VMware, and also increase scalability, availability and visibility.

“The global response we’ve seen from customers using Dimension with our XTM family of unified threat management (UTM) platforms has been unprecedented,” said Scott Robertson, Vice President of Asia Pacific. “In record numbers, customers are using this cloud-based visibility tool to get key insights into security threats and critical trends in their environment.  Although this product has been on the market for less than six months, we’re moving quickly to make new enhancements in response to enthusiastic feedback from users.”

Scott Robertson, Vice President of Asia Pacific.

While WatchGuard continued to see strong global growth with small and medium-sized distributed enterprise customers, the company achieved a 41 percent increase in high-end platform sales as the UTM value proposition continues to penetrate into the larger enterprise space. In Malaysia, the company recently reported a year-on-year growth of 28.6 percent and has plans to expand its portfolio offering to larger corporations. At current, SMEs contribute 60 percent of WatchGuard’s revenue in Malaysia.  The company currently owns 13 percent of the local UTM Firewall market share, according to Frost & Sullivan.
“We’ve been seeing tremendous growth opportunities in the Asian region and Malaysia is no different. We have been a market leader in the SME segment for many years and are now looking to cater our best-of-breed offerings to larger organisations. For many CIOs and IT personnel, Dimension will be a game-changer as they report to management in the boardroom,” added Robertson.

Frank Dickson, principle analyst at Frost & Sullivan, understands the value Dimension brings to the market as well and said, “We did a survey of more than 12,000 information security professionals and 56 percent reported that their organisation has too few information security workers. WatchGuard Dimension is a tool designed to make life easier for security professionals, especially those in the resource constrained mid-market, so they can more quickly distill key information security data into actionable policy creation.”

WatchGuard Dimension is delivered as a free virtual appliance for XTM customers, which simplifies set up. The latest update includes faster access and increased scalability with external and shared database support.  It also improves visibility with dynamic hostname resolution, and native language support for key countries will be available toward the end of Q1.

More Firms See IT Security as Strategic to their Business According to Fortinet-Commissioned Frost & Sullivan Survey

Senior Executives Cite Customer Satisfaction as the Top Reason for Security Adoption, while CEO Involvement in Security Decision-Making Reaches a High

MALAYSIA, November 12, 2013 − Fortinet - a global leader in high-performance network security – today announced the main findings of a survey commissioned to Frost & Sullivan in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, revealing a more strategic approach by organizations towards IT security. Customer satisfaction has overtaken compliance requirements as the leading driver for security, while CEOs now have unprecedented involvement – in front of CFOs and even CIOs − in security decision-making. The latter finding reflects management's realization of the business impact and value of IT security.

The survey also reveals an evolution of organizations' attitudes towards cloud computing, as growing adoption of private clouds − which result in data being centralized in the data centre − drive firms to consider making their data centres their new security operation centres (SOCs).

Conducted in October 2013 in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong, the survey polled 300 senior executives with positions like CIO, CTO and Head of IT. The 75 respondents from each country came from various verticals, including the four key verticals of financial services, service provider, government and education, and hailed from organizations of all sizes.

Customer Satisfaction the Leading Cause of IT Security Adoption
The survey found that customer satisfaction is now the main reason for firms across the region to adopt security, ahead of compliance and risk reduction. Customer satisfaction was rated particularly strongly in Malaysia and Thailand − it was listed as No. 1 in Malaysia and tied with compliance for the top spot in Thailand. Regional business hub Singapore still ranked risk reduction as No. 1, with customer satisfaction a close second. Employee productivity concerns, on the other hand, took the pole position in Hong Kong, suggesting a relatively receptive attitude towards BYOD (bring-your-own-device) and telecommuting.

Edison Yu, Associate Director, ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific, said: "The finding suggests that organizations in the region have moved from implementing IT security to comply with rules and policies to leveraging it in a more strategic manner. This is a healthy development that bodes well for enterprises' long-term prospects."

Security now gets the CEO's Attention
According to the survey, IT security issues have found their way up to the C-suite. Overall, 69% of the respondents said that their CEO is a decision maker in IT security matters, with 40% saying he/she is a key decision maker. This is ahead of the 46% and 30% given for the CIO, and the 44% and 12% given for the CFO, respectively. The role of the CEO in IT security is particularly pronounced in Malaysia and Thailand, where 45% of the respondents in each country said the CEO is the key decision maker.

Yu said: "More and more firms are realizing that security is not the remit of the IT department alone. The impact of a security breach on business is real and broad, and management wants to be proactively involved in preventing it. As IT security starts to be treated as a business risk, we see it becoming an integral part of organizations' risk management strategies."

Private Cloud Adoption Drives Data Centre to Become the New Security Command Post
Respondents in the region generally cited virtualization, resource consolidation and cloud computing as the requirements they are looking at for their data centre in the next 12 months. A substantial proportion (16%) also said they want their data centre to take on the role of a security command post. This trend is stronger in Malaysia and Thailand, with 21% and 19% of the local respondents citing it, respectively.

Yu said: "This aspiration is consistent with organizations' rising adoption of private clouds to consolidate IT in the data centre. Using the data centre as their new security operation centre (SOC) is a logical extension of this move and a good way to maximize the value of their data centre investment. We expect this trend to gain wider traction in the coming years."

The majority of respondents consider DDoS prevention/Web application firewalls, application security and network security as critical technologies in a data center setup. Singapore and Hong Kong rated application security as No. 1, result that may be driven by the Web-centricity of the multi-national corporations there. Thailand put network security in the top spot, while Malaysia prioritized network management, with application security and network security in joint second place.

Keep us Safe, but do it Cost-Effectively
The survey also revealed a widespread urge to maximize value from IT security investments. Overwhelmingly, respondents opted for IT security solutions that consolidate multiple functionality into one device, citing greater protection, easier management and lower cost as the main reasons for such choice. Malaysia and Thailand were the two countries most inclined towards such consolidated security platforms. Over two-thirds of the respondents from these countries − 69% for Malaysia and 72% for Thailand − preferred such platforms over stand-alone security solutions.

Firms relying on external parties for their security needs also expect value for their money. More than one-third (36%) of the respondents in the region wanted their solution providers to deliver value-added services − such as visibility reports, forensics and risk profiling – in view of maximizing the returns on their security investments. This expectation was strongest in Malaysia (37%) and Thailand (45%). The desire for value-added services ranked fourth, just after better support (#1), better performance (#2) and better pricing (#3).

Dato’ Seri George Chang, Fortinet's Vice President for Southeast Asia & Hong Kong, said: "We are glad to see that the survey results − consistent with our conversations with end-users − show that the C-suite are rethinking and reviewing their approach to IT security to better align with corporate's broader risk management objectives. Their realization that IT security is a business enabler rather than an infrastructure cost will pave the way for a more secure environment that will benefit both enterprises and consumers."

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s award winning firm host 9th annual information security symposium

Kuala Lumpur -- 19 November 2012 -- EC-Council Academy, a leading information security training provider throughout Southeast Asia, is hosting its ninth annual Hacker Halted APAC event today.

“The Hacker Halted APAC series has been a leading and constant source of information for the regional information security community,” said Wilson Wong, Managing Director, EC-Council Academy. “The event has been addressing up-to-date and edgy hacker technology and strategies since 2004.”

More than 400 regional information security professionals are gathered at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel for this year’s event.

The theme for Hacker Halted APAC 2012 is “Unravelling the Enigma of Insecurity”, focuses on security issues related to the transition of desktops to mobile devices, cloud computing, and current hacking technologies.

Information security and cyber  crimes have remained high on the threat list for organizations, government bodies and consumers. While cyber security awareness has increased, according to Wong, the lack of informed action and strategies has created a large gap open to risks and attacks. A recent survey by Hewlett Packard and the Ponemon Institute shows that there has been a 42% increase of cyber attacks in 2012 compared to 2011.

Cyber crimes have reach a new level of sophistication, according to an ethical hacking whitepaper by Frost & Sullivan.

“There’s no doubt that every organization and internet user will be direct or indirect victims of cyber crime and cyber attacks in the near future. Our aim here is to level the playing field so that the good guys will be able to stay ahead of cyber criminals,” said Wong.

Wong also stresses on the importance of having an aggressive defence systems and contingency plans to overcome an attack.

Hacker Halted APAC 2012 will feature live hacking and defense sessions throughout the event. A series of technical focused hacker combat workshops featuring latest network penetration techniques, cyber warfare and mobile devices security will also take place during this 4-day event.

Hacker Halted APAC 2012 is endorsed by the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).

EC-Council Academy recently won the “Information Security Education & Training Provider of the Year 2012” award by CyberSecurity Malaysia. EC-Council Academy is a training organization that focuses on information security and nothing else.

TM HONOURED AS SERVICE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR AT 2012 FROST & SULLIVAN MALAYSIA EXCELLENCE AWARDS

TM brings home 4 awards for the night

The awards list for Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) gets longer when the Company recently took home the Service Provider of the Year award at 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards. This achievement is even more meaningful as this is the first time TM clinched the most prestigious award of the night after its demerger exercise in 2008.

To add to the list, TM also won three (3) other awards - Broadband Service Provider of the Year, Data Communications Service Provider of the Year, Managed Service Provider of the Year for its subsidiary, VADS Berhad.
Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM (right) accepting the Service Provider of the Year award from YB Dato’ Jacob Dungau Sagan, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (left) at the recent 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards.

Present to accept the awards on behalf of the Company were Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM who accepted the Service Provider of the Year award, Datuk Bazlan Osman, Executive Director / Group Chief Financial Officer; and Ahmad Azhar Yahya, Chief Executive Officer, VADS Berhad.

Commenting on the win, Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani said, “We are very honoured and proud to receive the highest recognition for the night. In 2006 and 2007, we also won the best of the best award, but that was before the demerger and we jointly won it with another company. This time around, we won the Service Provider of the Year award on our own, as a pure fixed line and broadband player. It shows that we have come a long way since the demerger and further proves that we are indeed Malaysia’s Broadband Champion and leading integrated ICT provider. These four awards are for each and everyone of the 27,000 warga TM who have worked so hard to make this possible!”

“2011 was a great year for TM. Internet and Multimedia business grew by more than 20 percent. The nationwide HSBB reach passed 1.16 million homes. The Company activated over 230,000 UniFi subscribers which is highest in South East Asia. Last year, TM also doubled its hotspots to 20,000. The operator’s continued operational improvements led to higher operating revenue, capex efficiency and better EBITDA margin. As a result, it was able to secure 29.3% revenue and 22.6% EBITDA net add market shares in 2012. With this continued leadership position, they are the deserving Frost & Sullivan Service Provider of the Year,” said Vikas Chanani, Industry Analyst – Mobile and Wireless, Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technologies Practice, Frost & Sullivan.

In addition to that, this year’s achievement was complemented with TM bringing back the Broadband Service Provider of the Year award for the 7th time, strengthening its footing in the domestic broadband market with the roll-out of its High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, under the brand name UniFi which has just celebrated its 2nd anniversary last month.
Vikas Chanani was quoted as saying, “It is yet another successful year for TM by carrying the flag for increased penetration of high speed broadband in the country. On an average they continue to add 20,000 new customers a month, making Malaysia the fastest growing FTTH market in South East Asia. The high uptake of their UniFi service which is selling like pancakes, shows that the country population hungers for high speed broadband to support the new dynamic lifestyle. TM demonstrated a phenomenal broadband subscriber growth of 12.3 percent last year and currently has a total of 1.9 million broadband subscribers. Broadband leader and champion: TM is the 2012 Broadband Service Provider of the Year.”

Aside from taking home the Broadband Service Provider of the Year, TM has been acknowledged for the Data Communications Service Provider category for the 8th time, reflecting the Company’s outstanding performance in its business segments and for notably enhancing the industry as a whole. In addition, TM also clinched the Managed Service Provider of the Year award for the 4th time, which portrayed TM’s emphasis and attention on every segment that it serves, including Enterprises, by providing the best managed services to the market.

"TM maintains its leadership position in Malaysia Data Communications with three-quarter of the market share in 2011. Its leadership position is largely contributed by its comprehensive portfolio designed for Corporate / Government and SMBs. In 2011, the company focused on migrating customers from legacy to IP-based services, which proved to be a strong growth engine for the company. TM worked closely with VADS to offer value added services over data communications by bundling managed services to create greater value proposition. It is also a critical element of the ongoing HSBB implementation in the country. The comprehensive portfolio; stringent SLAs; global and domestic coverage; and double digit growth in 2011 have positioned it as the 2012 Malaysia Data Communications Service Provider of the Year," Mayank Kapoor, Industry Analyst – Datacenter and Cloud Computing, Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technologies Practice, Frost & Sullivan, acknowledging TM’s win.

The analyst also recognised VADS’ achievement once again as the Managed Service Provider of the Year, “VADS has an end-to-end managed services portfolio that includes Hosting, Security, Managed WAN optimization and Unified Communications, served from its fourteen hosting facilities across Malaysia. During 2011, the company has taken its market leadership forward in collaboration with Cisco to build Malaysia’s first Telepresence exchange and expanded its cloud services by adding Microsoft 365 to its portfolio. VADS continues to be the trusted partner for large enterprises across the country, with Maybank, CIMB, AmBank, MAS, Petronas, and others as clients. As a result of continuing enhancement in its portfolio, strong client satisfaction and double digit revenue growth, VADS has been adjudged as the Managed Services Provider of the Year again."

TM’s big sweep at 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards is testament to TM’s proven track record of performance and service, and also serve as a boost for TM to continue offering more innovative, effective and cost-efficient solutions for not only Malaysian consumers, but also to empower Malaysian businesses regardless of its size. By offering scalable, future-proof communications solutions such as UniFi, Metro-e and IPVPN, TM provides mass consumers, SMEs, enterprises and corporations, with secured and reliable communications services and network, and thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

MOST PROMISING QUALITIES FOUND IN ‘U’

U Mobile clinches the coveted Frost & Sullivan “Most Promising Service Provider of the Year” award

Kuala Lumpur, 13 April 2012 – The celebratory mood continues at U Mobile Sdn Bhd with Malaysia’s most dynamic and innovative telco bestowed Frost & Sullivan’s ‘Most Promising Service Provider of the Year’ award at the 2012 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Award ceremony held last night.

Cheers and applause defined the moment when U Mobile was announced the winner of the category during the ceremony held at Doubletree by Hilton. The award was presented by Mr. Manoj Menon, Partner & Asia Pacific Managing Director of Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific to Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of U Mobile.

U Mobile joins the ranks of other outstanding players in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) industry, whose achievements earned them the prestigious recognition from Frost & Sullivan, one of the world’s leading market research firms. U Mobile’s clear leadership is demonstrated through its outstanding subscriber growth rate and disruptive service innovation which has outranked other contenders in the field.

It was also U Mobile’s bold business and marketing strategies manifested in a string of many “firsts in the market” that won it the title of Most Promising Service Provider of the year. U Mobile aced its performance in 2011 through its well-defined three-pronged strategy – expanding network infrastructure, strengthening its brand through innovative product offerings and widening distribution channels. This business strategy also helped U Mobile carve a milestone achievement in August 2011 when it reached one million subscribers with an increase of 900% within 1 year.

“I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our customers, dealers and vendors who have shown unremitting support to U Mobile, which helped us garner this prestigious award. It is indeed an honour to be recognised by industry experts and it has certainly motivated us to continue to be bold and dynamic with our product offerings and business operations,” said Dr. Kaizad.

“The win is also a credit to our U Mobile team members, whose dedication and commitment to the company helped establish U Mobile as a reputable entity and a force to be reckoned within the industry,” he added.

The company took the broadband market by storm when it first introduced its 42mbps mobile broadband service in September 2011. U Mobile also innovates with its prepaid services by offering nationwide on-net free calls, free SMSs, unlimited mobile internet and zero roaming charges in Singapore. Its postpaid package too is a unique gem in the market – combining voice, SMS and data plans in a single package, which was widely recognized as the best value postpaid package in the market.

U Mobile has also demonstrated its innovation and thought leadership via its unique network sharing strategies through collaborative efforts with other industry partners, providing its customers nationwide coverage. This is evident through the company’s 3G Radio Access Network (RAN) sharing pact with Maxis Berhad, which was the first active partnership of this nature in Asia.

In enabling customers to enjoy greater accessibility to U Mobile products, the telco proactively broadens its distribution network and channels, bringing U Mobile products and services closer to the public. Apart from U Mobile direct service centres, U Mobile products are also available at all Cosway, 7-Eleven, and Singer outlets nationwide, at hypermarket chains such as Giant, Tesco and Carrefour and even at independent convenient stores located in residential areas.

The recognition comes fresh on the heels of the company’s award from PC.com. U Mobile received the “Rising Star” of the year award in the magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards 2011 for its outstanding market performance, subscriber growth and unique product & service offerings in 2011.

Fortinet Receives Frost & Sullivan's 2011 Asia Pacific Growth Leadership Award for Firewall/IPSec VPN

Leading Analyst Firm’s Endorsement Recognises the Company’s APAC Growth Momentum and Enterprise Traction

MALAYSIA, 7 December 2011 ― Fortinet − a leading network security provider and the worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions – today announced that it has received the 2011 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Growth Leadership Award in the Firewall/IPSec VPN market.

The award is conferred to the technology vendor in the category that has shown the best growth and performance in the Asia Pacific market in 2010. Frost & Sullivan analysts and an international panel of judges evaluated the contenders of this award based on their revenue size and growth; growth strategy, implementation excellence and portfolio diversity; degree of innovation with products and technologies; and customer value.

According to Frost & Sullivan estimates, Fortinet achieved a 23.1% year-over-year growth in the APAC Firewall/IPSec VPN market in 2010, helping it become the fastest vendor among key players in the market. The Firewall/IPSec VPN category covers stand-alone firewalls, next-generation firewalls, integrated security appliances, secure routers and switches, and software.

“Despite challenging business conditions, Fortinet recorded an impressive growth rate. This success could be attributed to the vendor’s commitment to technological excellence, as well as their ability to listen and cater to the evolving security requirements of the customer. By developing an intimate understanding across the heterogeneous markets in APAC, Fortinet was able to put together a compelling and effective go-to-market plan for their channel partners, and propel itself up the value chain in a highly competitive segment,” said Edison Yu, Industry Manager for ICT, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific.

This year’s award ceremony, attended by business leaders from the ICT and other sectors, was held at Singapore's historic Fullerton Hotel on November 29. Frost & Sullivan's awards represent one of the strongest endorsements vendors can get from the analyst community. Last year, Fortinet received the analyst firm’s Asia Pacific ICT Award for Network Security Vendor of the Year. In 2008, Fortinet received Frost & Sullivan's Global UTM Market Leadership Award.

Fortinet enjoyed strong business and revenue growth in 2010. Asia Pacific and Japan revenue in fiscal 2010 was US$79.1 million, a rise of 24% from the previous year. In 2011 Fortinet posted its best quarter ever in the enterprise segment in its third quarter of 2011 results announced in October. The company closed the biggest enterprise contract in its 11-year history, while Japan saw a record quarter and Southeast Asia performed strongly.

“We are honoured to receive this award from Frost & Sullivan, which validates Fortinet’s traction from organizations in Asia Pacific as we have invested heavily across the region, strengthening our partner program and our customer engagement process,” said Patrice Perche, Fortinet’s Senior Vice President for International Sales and Support. “The award is also recognition that our FortiGate platform today delivers the best combination of protection, flexibility and performance to enterprises and we will continue to push innovation to help businesses address their evolving security challenges.”

Asia Pacific IT Decision Makers Look to Ethernet Fabrics to Realize Cloud Ambitions

Survey Reveals Server Virtualization Has Crossed the Point of Inflection in Asia Pacific

SINGAPORE, Nov. 15, 2011 – A new research report from Frost & Sullivan shows that with rapidly increasing usage of server virtualization, enterprises across Asia Pacific are now looking at Ethernet fabric technology to help fully realize the benefits of business agility, operational efficiencies and lower costs. Commissioned by Brocade® (NASDAQ: BRCD), Think flat with Ethernet Fabric - Importance of a Flat Network Architecture in Cloud Implementation is based on findings from a survey of 328 IT decision-makers from across the region.

The report revealed that two-thirds of the organizations surveyed have adopted server virtualization, of which 46 percent are now running production environments on virtual machines. More than a third of respondents said their organizations planned to pilot an Ethernet fabric architecture within the next six months and a further 25 percent said they intended to do so within 12 months.

"What jumps out from this new report is just how fast Asia Pacific enterprises are now moving towards cloud computing architecture," said John McHugh, Chief Marketing Officer of Brocade. "They are certainly not all there yet but road-maps are in place and there is a high level of awareness about the issues they need to address. Creating a data center networking architecture that is simple, secure, flat and virtualized is a top priority for the region's IT decision makers."

With virtualization initiatives underway at most companies covered by the Frost & Sullivan survey, 35 percent of respondents said their organizations had already adopted some form of cloud computing with private clouds more common than either the public or hybrid cloud delivery models. While software-as-a-service adoption has been steadily growing in Asia Pacific in the past decade, Frost & Sullivan's analysts found adoption of cloud-enabled infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service seeing a huge spurt in the past 12 months.

"Rolling out cloud computing is complex, which is why it is recommended that organizations address the data center network challenges head on rather than waiting for bottlenecks to appear," said Andrew Milroy, Vice President - ICT Practice for Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific.

"That means virtualizing the network layer; optimizing infrastructure through flat architecture; introducing VM-aware automation to enable elastic scaling; and pro-active management to maximize availability and minimize opex. We therefore see Ethernet fabric becoming the critical data center network technology due to its scalability, flatness and efficiency."

Anticipating these needs in 2010, Brocade introduced its vision -- Brocade One -- of a cloud and data center architecture with Virtual Cluster Switching (VCS) as the core technology for building large, high-performance and flat Layer 2 fabrics to better support server virtualization. Leveraging Brocade VCS fabric technology, Brocade VDX Data Center Switches are now being deployed as the Ethernet fabric foundation at leading-edge cloud data centers across the region.

Fortinet FortiOS 4.0 Demonstrates Future of Network Security Convergence, According to Leading Consulting Firm

Frost & Sullivan Report Touts FortiGate Firmware Upgrade as Next Evolution of UTM

MALAYSIA, 8 June 2009 – Fortinet - a market-leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that Frost & Sullivan issued a report on the company’s FortiOS 4.0 technology, the latest firmware upgrade for its FortiGate multi-threat security appliances. The report touted the release as “bringing network security convergence to the next level” and “casting a spotlight on the evolution of UTM.”

Frost & Sullivan’s research supports the innovation found within FortiOS 4.0. The following highlights are from the report:
UTM brings an excellent value proposition to the security arena against the backdrop of an increasingly challenging business environment.
The events in the past six months in the global economy have made the advantages of deploying a UTM more pronounced, with the solution becoming a more acceptable security form factor among the large enterprises.
The introduction of the FortiOS 4.0 platform by Fortinet has cast the spotlight on the evolution of the UTM solution platform.
Fortinet has once again taken the bold step of expanding the definition of the UTM and incorporating its notion of technology convergence into it.
Fortinet’s foray into non-security related technologies is going to broaden customer perceptions towards the multitude of possibilities associated with an integrated solution platform.
Looking ahead, with this latest attempt at redefining the borders of the UTM solution, the future looks certain to move rapidly towards technology convergence.

“Innovation has always been one of Fortinet’s greatest strengths, and we’re pleased that Frost & Sullivan recognizes the innovation delivered in our latest FortiOS firmware,” said Michael Xie, founder, CTO and vice president of engineering. “We are focused more than ever on expanding our vision for consolidated and easily managed network security solutions, and we’re continuously updating our FortiOS firmware with innovative new features that meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

FortiOS 4.0 integrates hundreds of new features to significantly improve the value and functionality of FortiGate appliances. Following are four of the most notable features of Fortinet’s new OS:

· Application Control – to recognize traffic as the application which is generating it, instead of the port or protocol observed;
· Data Leakage Prevention – to help identify and prevent the communication of sensitive information outside of the network boundaries;
· WAN Optimization – to accelerate applications over WAN connections while ensuring multi-threat security enforcement;
· SSL Inspection – to increase security and policy control among encrypted traffic streams.

The combination of these features helps customers to secure their network by removing the malicious traffic that is reducing available bandwidth and, at the same time, accelerate the clean traffic for optimal network performance.

Top Research Firm Recognizes Fortinet with Global UTM Market Leadership Award

Frost & Sullivan’s World UTM Report also Recommends UTM as a Preferred Enterprise and Data Center Security Solution

MALAYSIA, 23 December 2008 – Fortinet – the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions – today announced that Frost & Sullivan has bestowed on the company the “2008 Global Market Leadership Award for UTM” for its growth, innovation and market strategy. The award is based on extensive research conducted by the global market research and consulting firm, which evaluated Fortinet against several UTM vendors, including Check Point, Cisco and Juniper.

This award supports data from other research firms that confirm Fortinet’s UTM market leadership, and further validates the company’s integrated network security approach as a preferred solution for enterprises and data centers worldwide.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Leadership was given to Fortinet for exhibiting market share leadership through the implementation of its market strategy. As stated in the corresponding award report, “Fortinet has displayed excellence in all areas of the market leadership process, including the identification of market challenges, drivers and restraints, as well as strategy development and methods of addressing these market dynamics.”

In recognizing Fortinet’s leadership, Frost & Sullivan highlighted the following specific contributors:
· Presently, Fortinet sales account for more than 15 percent of the USD1.6 billion UTM market
· Fortinet was one of the only companies to recognize that businesses need agility through scalability to counter present-day and future network security threats
· Fortinet’s overall solution provides businesses of all sizes with superior protection at a low total cost of ownership, or TCO
· Fortinet is also one of the few companies to develop its own suite of network security products, such as anti-malware and IPS signatures

“Frost & Sullivan is proud to present the 2008 Award for Market Leadership in Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions market to Fortinet for their continued leadership through innovative technology,” said Terrence Brewton, research analyst for Frost & Sullivan. “Fortinet’s UTM appliances were built from the ground up, incorporate proprietary ASICs, and use a common operating system to meet the growing threat of blended based attacks head-on, while also addressing the performance and scalability needs of enterprises of all sizes. For these reasons and more, Fortinet is our top pick for this prestigious and competitive award category.”

Leadership in a Booming Market
In addition to this prestigious award, Fortinet was called out as the market leader in Frost & Sullivan’s “World Unified Threat Management” report, published last month, which provides an overview of key findings and market drivers for UTM. In the report the firm forecasted that the current USD1.6 billion UTM market would increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23 percent to USD6.9 billion in 2014.

In the report, Frost & Sullivan recommends UTM as a viable solution for enterprises and large-scale data centers, as the technology incorporates the same high-speed processing and throughput found in stand-alone enterprise-class appliances, yet also provides the ability to protect networks against blended threats – something that standalone solutions cannot do. The firm’s survey of business managers and administrators showed that these users believe UTM appliances are especially viable for the enterprise due to their low latency and ability to meet high throughput requirements needed to support large businesses with 500 or more users and for large-scale data centers.

The FortiGate line of new generation secure gateways is a consolidated approach that integrates eight core security functions, including firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention (IPS), VPN, spyware prevention, antispam, Web content filtering and traffic shaping. Customers can choose to purchase FortiGate appliances for some or all of these functionalities.

“Frost & Sullivan’s perspective on the UTM market mirrors what Fortinet’s vision and growing customer adoption have confirmed – that enterprises of all sizes can benefit from consolidated, centrally managed network security solutions,” said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet. “Enterprises are no longer staking their data – and the security of their businesses – on firewall solutions alone. They are requiring the scalability and flexibility found only within a more comprehensive security solution.”
