Intel Malaysia Rolls 40th Anniversary Celebrations from Campus2Campus

500 cyclists traverse 55km route to promote healthier living

PENANG, May 22, 2012 – In conjunction with Intel Malaysia’s ongoing 40th year anniversary celebrations, almost 500 cyclists from Intel Malaysia travelled over 55 kilometres from Intel Kulim Hi-Tech Park to Intel Penang last Sunday. The cyclothon aims to encourage a healthier lifestyle amongst participants as well as to promote the concept of green commuting via cycling.

Intel Malaysia held a glittering ceremony earlier this year to kick off the year-long 40th year anniversary celebrations and the Campus2Campus Cyclothon is one of the many activities organized to mark this milestone. Recently concluded events of a similar nature include an eco-walkathon held during Global Earth Day; and many other fun events targeting employees and family members.“In celebrating Intel’s 40th year of operations in Malaysia, we remain committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community with our direct involvement in sustained environmental programs such as this Campus2Campus Cyclothon. This is in line with one of the four objectives in our global strategy, and that is to ‘Care for our people and our planet, and inspire the next generation’.” said Robin Martin, Managing Director of Assembly, Test & Manufacturing at the launch of the event. As the 2009 Prime Minister’s CSR Award winner for the Environment category, Intel Malaysia has been firm in its commitment to environmental stewardship. Notable initiatives undertaken by Intel include the Intel Solid Waste Recycling Program. In its 10th year running, the program has collected over 500 tons of recyclable solid waste and has reached out to more than 170,000 students and teachers from various schools across Penang and Kulim, Kedah. Other environmental-friendly program includes the “1 Employee: 1 Tree Program” where 17,000 mangrove trees have been planted in the coastal areas of Penang, as well as a series of biodiversity conservation programs, including turtle protection, river preservation and beach clean-up activities, aimed at promoting the importance of sustaining a healthy marine ecosystem.“I have consistently participated in every program organized by Intel including this cyclothon and it is a great opportunity to spend more time with my friends and family while raising awareness for the environment.” said Lim Bok Sim, an Intel Malaysia employee and an ardent cyclist.
