RockCorps Launches ‘Bagi Baru Dapat’ Programme in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 15 June 2012 – The word is out. RockCorps is coming to Malaysia, and its mission is clear. Increase engagement of young people in community activities and redefine how youths look at volunteerism. RockCorps Malaysia is a social venture company that connects people to the power of volunteering and brands to the power of people.

The concept is simple. No tickets are sold. Rather, young people are encouraged to GIVE FOUR HOURS OF YOUR TIME to a RockCorps Malaysia charity project and you will GET GIVEN one ticket to the hottest show around. In Malaysia, RockCorps Malaysia is looking into fusing the local concept of “Gotong Royong” and rocking it up with the tagline BAGI BARU DAPAT. This way, volunteers earn their way into the concert. RockCorps Malaysia will collaborate with activities that are in partnership or support of local charities and councils.

Operating as a pro-social production company, RockCorps successfully uses the power of music to inspire young people to volunteer and Give to their community. Artists that have performed for our volunteers since RockCorps exploded onto the music scene include: Snoop Dogg, Vampire Weekend, Xzibit, Kelly Rowland, Tinie Tempah, Nelly, Nas, Lady Gaga, Akon, David Guetta, Razorlight, The Enemy and N-Dubz.

RockCorps has assigned The Zhariff Initiative Sdn Bhd (TZI) as its local representative, and Chief Executive Officer, En. Muhammad Zhariff Afandi is very much looking forward to bringing what could well be the next big thing to hit this region. “RockCorps Malaysia will bring this innovative and creative method that has worked so well in Europe and America in bringing young people to volunteer. I think young people in Malaysia will find this program absolutely awesome and hopefully create the same results that we have previously. It’s been a brilliant fuse of integrating all the elements that young people are into like music, art, pop culture, and fashion into our program, ”

RockCorps CEO, Stephen Greene added, “We are excited to be bringing RockCorps to Malaysia.
We think that Zhariff is our ideal partner for the country”.

The high incentive activities RockCorps create allow a new opportunity for brands and medias to interact and add value to their consumers. Previous partners in the UK, US, and France have been Orange, Boost Mobile, Blackberry, Sony Ericsson and Channel 4 (UK). RockCorps’ success to date is a result of their strong core values and the company’s flexibility and willingness to mold according to partners’ needs and strategies.

As to date, RockCorps Malaysia has received endorsements from the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Ministry of Women Family and Community Development. RockCorps Malaysia will now open its avenues to secure partnerships with brands, medias, charities, councils and other government bodies. The program is planned to kick off in June 2012 with different charitable and community activities and the year will be rounded off with the RockCorps concert in late 2012. A massive 10,000 young people are targeted to participate in the program. Beyond 2013, RockCorps aims to include expansions to other South East Asian countries across the region.

RockCorps Malaysia is part of a global volunteer movement. Since the concept launched in 2004, 130 000+ young volunteers have spent four hours of their time on charitable causes. In return they have participated in over 40 live events around the world. Millions of others have been reached by the message: Give to get given.
