BAE SYSTEMS SUPPORTS MALAYSIA INNOCONF 2012

Kuala Lumpur – BAE Systems, the global defence, aerospace and security company, is pleased to announce its participation at the 2nd Innovation Conference and Exposition 2012 (INNOCONF 2012) held at Politeknik Premier Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam from July 17 to 18. This initiative is part of the Company’s long-term strategy to develop partnerships with education stakeholders and transfer technology to Malaysia.

INNOCONF highlights the value of open innovation in an increasingly competitive global environment. It will provide an opportunity for local and international participants from a wide range of industrial sectors to interact, network and exchange ideas about the future of innovation.

The event serves as one of many platforms employed by BAE Systems to engage and interact with government agencies, academia and local businesses – via MIGHT METEOR, the advanced manufacturing institute and a subsidiary of the Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology. A key note speech and presentation on open innovation will be delivered by Mark Burgess, Vice President, BAE Systems Malaysia.

“BAE Systems recognises the value of collaboration across industries and academia in order to remain at the cutting edge of innovation. We can offer opportunities to meet Malaysia’s demand for new technologies by initiating and driving such collaboration” explained Mark.

“We are keen to support the development of innovation, technology, education and skills in Malaysia and contribute to Malaysia's Economic Transformation Programme. From an academic standpoint, we can also help institutions of higher learning set high standards in research and development and bridge the gap between students and industry”.

“We’ve proven our ability to do this in the past aligned to Malaysia’s procurement of the Hawk fast jet trainer more than 15 years ago. We would wish to further develop these opportunities through similar aerospace, defence and security solutions such as the Eurofighter Typhoon” he added.

INNOCONF 2012 is being jointly organized by MIGHT METEOR and officiated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The event will be officiated by the Secretary General of MOHE, YBhg Datuk Ab. Rahim bin Md Noor.

BAE Systems has had a presence in Malaysia for more than 20 years with an established South East Asia regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
