Sneak Peek of the New Canon EOS C500 and Canon EOS-1D C at the Canon Cinema EOS System – Television Production with Alexander Buono Workshop

Kuala Lumpur, 9 July 2012 – Canon, a world leader in digital imaging, today presented movie-makers and professional videographers the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the highly anticipated Canon EOS C500 and EOS-1D C – with both cameras offering 4K (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) resolution recording that support cutting-edge visual expression possibilities resulting in outstanding videos at the Canon Cinema EOS System – Television Production with Alexander Buono Workshop.

More than 150 participants including some of the movie industry’s top leaders attended the workshop conducted by Alexander Buono, a full-time cinematographer of indie films, music videos and as the Director of Photography for the Saturday Night Live Film Unit. At the workshop, Alex shared on the vast capabilities of the Canon EOS C300 for location and studio shooting among other topics during the workshop session. He also enlightened the participants on his extensive experience shooting with the Canon 5D Mark II, Canon EOS 7D and the company’s first full-fledged entry into the motion picture production industry, the Canon C300.(from left to right): Simon Wong, Director, Imaging Communication Products Division with Alexander Buono.

“In an effort to expand the possibilities in visual expression and further support the development of cinematic culture, Canon has developed cameras that offers 4K resolution recording in the new interchangeable-lens digital cinema camera, the EOS C500 and the new digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, EOS-1D C. These models aim to meet the needs of motion picture, television and other digital high-resolution production industries looking for exceptional imaging performance,” said Simon Wong, Director of the Imaging Communication Products Division of Canon Marketing (Malaysia).

“We are confident that the new digital cinema camera EOS C500/EOS C500 PL with 4K-resolution video recording capability will be able to cater to the growing expectations for higher levels of imaging performance of the movie industry. Targeting Hollywood, Bollywood, Malaysia filmmaking and the broader motion picture and television production industry, the interchangeable-lens EOS C500/EOS C500 PL will support 4K (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) video capture with RAW output to ensure the utmost in image quality,” he added.

The EOS C300 was introduced in November 2011, making it Canon’s full-fledged entry into the motion-picture production market and on its heels was the development of new digital cinema camera capable of recording 4K-resolution video in response to growing expectations for even higher levels of video image quality, the EOS C500/EOS C500 PL digital cinema camera. These models support Canon’s diverse line-up of interchangeable EF lenses and EF Cinema Lenses; and the EOS C500 PL, with a PL lens mount for compatibility with industry-standard PL lenses.

Another model that is able to record at a 4K resolution is the new compact, lightweight EOS-1D C digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera that offers an efficient post-production workflow, highly compatible with those used in the motion-picture, television, music video and other top-end production industries. The camera is capable of recording video, including 4K, to an inserted CF card without using such peripheral equipment as external recorders, enabling workflows with increased mobility.
