APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF YAYASAN INOVASI MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, August 1, 2012 – Dr Mazalan Kamis has been appointed as a new CEO of Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia with effect from 1st August 2012.

Dr Mazalan Kamis received his PhD in Extension Education specializing in Transformative Learning from University Putra Malaysia and in addition he also holds a M. Ed in Instructional Leadership from University of Houston as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Mazalan was previously COO of Institute Darul Ridzuan (IDR), a think-tank for the State of Perak where he has been instrumental in introducing and driving various initiatives to increase innovative capacities of individuals, communities and organizations in Perak. Prior to joining IDR, he worked as a development policy specialist in a think-tank group at the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Prime Minister’s Department. At EPU, he was a core member of a group responsible in formulating Strategic Direction for socio-economic development for Malaysia as well as providing input to several National development plans including the Tenth Malaysia Plan. He has had a three-year working stint in the United States of America prior to joining EPU, where he worked as a Transnational Project Manager for Cornell University.

Dr Mazalan Kamis is an expert on strategy, innovation, creativity and social development. He has been active in advocating for Value Innovation and Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) for over half a decade. He underwent a one-year intensive practical training in BOS in 2007 under the tutelage of a global facilitator for the creators of the method. Dr. Mazalan has gained recognition as a thought-leader on the transformative perspective of Breaking Boundaries for successful growth strategies.

He has a deep interest in innovation and strategic planning and has conducted numerous workshops and deliver talks related to the subject. An engaging presenter, he drives towards provoking his audiences to deconstruct their mental boundaries that can hinder their personal as well as organizational and business growth. Dr.Mazalan has delivered keynote addresses at public and in-house conferences and management retreats, conducts training workshops and seminars, and facilitates many public and private sectors organizations to formulate innovative strategies for growth.

Dr Mazalan is also very active in spending his free time to engage in social work through voluntary activities. He is a board member and life-time volunteer of Cancer Network (KanWork), a non-governmental organization that he helped to form in Malaysia. While in the US, he served for two years as President of the Aceh Relief Fund (ARF), a NGO that he helped to establish and incorporate in the State of New York to deliver tsunami related assistance to Aceh. Currently Dr.Mazalan serves as an International Advisor to the Aceh Institute in Banda Aceh.
