Dolby, Stagetec Asia, and Media Prima Support Groundbreaking Live Surround Sound Mixing on Popular Live Talent Show, Mentor 6

Singapore, August 1, 2012—The collaboration of Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) with Stagetec Asia and Media Prima Berhad resulted in a successful trial run of surround sound production and digital transmission for one of Media Prima’s most popular live talent shows, Mentor season 6, aired on Media Prima’s TV3 channel.

Mr. Geoffrey Low, a Dolby certified mixing engineer, provided expertise for this project, the first surround sound production on TV3. Together with Stagetec Asia, Dolby and Media Prima Berhad conducted a workflow and system setup followed by a three-week series of exercises in digital audio transmission using Dolby 5.1 surround sound. This enabled Media Prima to migrate from stereo to surround sound mixing, leading Malaysia’s media industry in stepping up to the 2015 national broadcast digitization standards.

“Surround sound is the next step for all HD broadcasters in the region,” said Dr. Ahmad Zaki, Group General Manager of Engineering, Media Prima Berhad. “This recent collaboration with Mentor 6 allowed Media Prima to gain invaluable expertise, enabling TV3 to become an industry leader in live surround sound production in Malaysia.”

“Dolby is committed to wholeheartedly supporting broadcasters in their migration to digital transmission and surround sound, like Media Prima,” said Leong-Yan Yoong, Director, Dolby Singapore. “Our collaboration with Stagetec Asia and Media Prima is a prime example of our continuing efforts to help our HD broadcast partners elevate themselves to cutting-edge international industry standards and gain a competitive edge.”
