Malaysian Government Entity Gains Flexibility and Reduces Costs with Red Hat Technologies

KUALA LUMPUR – 27 September 2012 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Melaka State Government in Malaysia has deployed Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization as the foundation for its planned cloud computing infrastructure.  Since deploying Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, as well as the Red Hat Enterprise Linux enterprise operating system, Melaka State Government has reduced costs and gained flexibility.

The Government of the State of Melaka is comprised of 43 departmental offices that govern four local authorities.  Resulting from growth and expansion, the Melaka State Government was confronted with the challenge of having information and systems in various silos. To improve efficiencies in its organizational system, the company embarked on an IT consolidation and virtualization journey enabled by Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.

The Melaka state government made the choice to rely on Red Hat technologies due to the reliable Red Hat subscription model and innovative open source development model. With open source technology, costs are typically reduced and flexibility is gained.  Open source technologies, such as Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and its Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor, also offer freedom from vendor lock-in, which is a compelling benefit for building cloud computing infrastructures.

In addition to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, the state government implemented Red Hat Enterprise Linux, a trusted and secure operating system that has been serving enterprises for more than a decade.  The combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provide the building blocks for the Melaka State Government’s future cloud environment.
