ELS Educational Services, Inc., and Universiti Putra Malaysia Partnership Expands ELS International Pathways

Official Memorandum of Understanding Signed at NAFSA Conference, St. Louis, Missouri

PRINCETON, NJ (June 4, 2013)—ELS Educational Services and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the NAFSA Conference in St. Louis, stating their joint intention to encourage the enhancement of English Language proficiency among students of UPM.  

The MoU was signed by Mark W. Harris, President and CEO of ELS Educational Services, Inc. and by Prof. Datuk Dr. Fauzi Ramlan, Vice Chancellor of UPM.

ELS is a leading pathway provider for international students wishing to study abroad via the largest network of campus-based study locations in the world, empowering them to reach their goals through English for Academic Purposes and university study skills instruction.  The memorandum also supports successful global student mobility via the recruitment of qualified internationals students to UPM and encouragement of international pathways between UPM and the ELS network of over 650 partner universities around the world.

The collaboration between ELS and UPM serves as a milestone as part of its on-going efforts to nurture and develop the command of English, while providing synergistic benefits.

Professor Datuk Dr. Fauzi Ramlan said, “English language proficiency is vital competency among the students of UPM as it increases the employability of our graduates. We are delighted to be working with ELS in numerous initiatives that would enhance the English language standards among UPM students. We also look forward to working with ELS in increasing our student mobility through its wide network of universities around the world."

ELS’ collaboration with UPM also resonates with the Malaysian government's emphasis to promote English language proficiency for Malaysia to transition itself towards a high value-added and English-proficient country.

Universiti Putra Malaysia is a top six-star ranked Malaysian public institution with a variety of programs of interest to international students, including agriculture, business, medicine and forestry.  It has a current enrollment of 30,000 students, including 3,000 international students.  The ELS/Malaysia on-campus Language Center at Universiti Putra Malaysia is located in Serdang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
