Celebrating the success of AILA by TM R&D, globally
Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), the research arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), recently bagged the Innovation Award at the Asia Communication Awards 2013, held in Conrad Centennial, Singapore in conjunction with CommunicAsia 2013.
TM R&D was conferred with the award for its innovative Advance Internet Lighting Application (AILA), which is able to provide high speed broadband Internet using the visible light as an alternative and complementary medium to existing wireless communications. Employing light emitting diode (LED) technology, the AILA application is an energy-efficient last mile connectivity solution with both illumination and communications capability.
“Visual light communications is part of our research portfolio for future network and communications technologies. The research opens up novel approaches in looking at the potential of new lighting sources and applications. We are proud of the team’s progress in a relatively short period and the industry peer recognition of the achievement,” said Dr. Gopi Kurup, Chief Executive Officer of TM R&D.
“We at TM have always been exploring new ways to serve our customers better with introduction of new offerings, utilising advanced technologies through innovations. We are indeed very glad that our innovations have been recognised at the regional level and this win definitely gives us a boost to continue keeping abreast of the latest technologies, all in the effort of serving you better,” commented Giorgio Migliarina, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, TM.
Organised by Total Telecom, the Asia Communication Awards recognise the achievements of Asian telecommunication companies and the individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrow’s industry.
