The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer - now 50% quieter. No compromise on performance: hands are dry in ten seconds

Problem: When jets of air travelling at 430mph collide, air turbulence results. Turbulence creates noise.

Solution: Dyson engineers have reengineered the apertures of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer to reduce air turbulence. Two sheets of high velocity unheated air travel through 0.4mm scallop-shaped apertures quickly scraping water from hands like a windscreen wiper, leaving them fully dry. The scallop design increases the distance travelled by the two sheets of air before they collide. An overhanging lip on the front aperture alters the angle of the air exiting the machine, further reducing the sound made when the sheets collide.

It’s 50% quieter than its predecessor - with no compromise on performance, it dries hands in just 10 seconds.    

James Dyson said:  “Powerful machines create noise. Others might decelerate their motor; reducing airflow – and therefore performance – to make machines they claim to be ‘quiet’. But by focusing on acoustic engineering, Dyson engineers ensured that Airblade is still the fastest hand dryer, but with reduced volume”.

A team of 25 specialist acousticians work hard to reduce vibrations, hone airflow and change the motor’s tone to engineer machines that are quieter and have better sound quality, while maintaining high performance. RM7.5m is spent every year researching noise cancelling technologies and designing specialised acoustic components.

Helmholtz silencer: a Dyson designed Helmholtz silencer eliminates specific motor tones. It is made of six chambers, each with a hole on the outside. Once the air exits the motor it passes over the openings of the silencer. The internal cavities create tones at the same frequency as, but of a different phase to, the motor tone. These chambers isolate and substantially reduce the first and fourth harmonic of the motor tone – the unpleasant frequencies most prominent to the human ear.

The Dyson digital motor V4: a power dense brushless DC motor, utilising a bonded neodymium magnet encased in a carbon fibre sleeve. It is small, powerful and capable of creating 430mph sheets of air that dry hands quickly and efficiently. It is one of the world’s smallest and fully integrated 1600W motors. Using digital pulse technology, it accelerates from 0-90,000rpm in less than 0.7 seconds.

首创的 “以旧换新” 活动在全马各地举行，是为了通过旧吸尘机和风扇再循环利用去提供更干净和健康的社区环 境以及支援动物之家。另外，替换他们旧家电器的客户则获得以15%的折扣去购买新的戴森 吸尘机  (Dyson Vacuum Cleaners)或空气倍增器 (Dyson Air Multiplier)。

在活动推介期间，五个慈善之家，包括希望之家、 双溪威老人院、 阳光之家 、美嘉花园身心残障人 士与儿童之家和爱护动物协会都分别获得由戴森所赠送的一架吸尘机作为他们对社区福利的贡献。

DYSON TRADE-IN PROGRAMME A SUCCESS

PROGRAMME RAISED RM10,000 IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 APRIL 2013 – The Dyson Trade-in Programme concluded successfully when five charity homes were presented with cheques totalling RM10,000. The programme was launched to help the underprivileged as well as supporting the environment through a sustainable recycling programme of old vacuum cleaners and fans.

The first of its kind trade-in programme was launched nationwide to support two key community areas – to collect and recycle old vacuum cleaners and fans, and to provide a cleaner and healthier environment for community and animal homes. Customers who traded-in their old household equipments were given a 15% discount on a brand new Dyson vacuum cleaner or air multiplier.

During the launch of the programme, five charity homes – Rumah Hope, Rumah Orang-orang Tua Seri Setia, Asrama Cahaya and Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled children’s Home and the SPCA – were presented with a Dyson vacuum cleaner each as part of their commitment to the community.
