PropertyGuru Exceeds 1 Million Downloads for Mobile Apps

Popularity Testament of Accelerated Growth in the Mobile Property Search Market

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 October 2013 – PropertyGuru Group, Asia’s leading online property portal, recently hit a major milestone with more than 1 million downloads for its mobile apps in its core markets of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The achievement is unrivalled by any other property portal in the region and affirms the Group’s strategy of pioneering mobile property search in the region.

Designed for both property agents and seekers, the rise of PropertyGuru’s suite of mobile apps is fuelled by smartphone and internet penetration exploding across Asia like never before. This growth is even more pronounced in countries with developing property markets. Collectively, PropertyGuru saw the number of downloads for its mobile apps in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia rise 12-fold within a one year period since July 2012, equating to almost 1400 downloads per day.

Mobile and online are becoming more integrated into people’s lives and is increasingly influencing research, entertainment and purchase behaviour. Smartphones and other mobile devices are becoming the preferred method to access the Internet, replacing conventional PCs including laptops as consumers look for instant gratification. This has been further accelerated with the advent of social media platforms as well as numerous apps that have exponentially increased the utility of the mobile platform.

“Growth in downloads for PropertyGuru’s mobile apps can be attributed to the overall spike in smart phone usage. Certainly, for many, online and mobile has become the first point of research or intelligence, especially with regards to larger acquisitions such as properties,” shared Gerard Kho, Country Manager, PropertyGuru Malaysia.

In Malaysia alone, data compiled from various credible sources paint a clear picture of emerging shifts in consumer behaviour towards adopting mobile as a form of intuitive property search. More than 2 out of 5 users go online via mobile to search for properties, twice the number as compared to 2011. More interestingly, this is almost equal to the number of Malaysians who watch full episodes of TV programmes online, with most preferring to conduct their search during working hours between 10am -6pm on weekdays.

Kho mentioned that the statistics provide a glimpse into the future; that mobile is reshaping consumer behaviour and growing as a vital communication medium to reach audiences.

“We highlighted this fact when we recently held the Asia Mobile & Technology Real Estate Conference (AMTREC) in Kuala Lumpur. The data from global and local sources further lends credence that online and particularly, mobile is an exciting medium that will only get better with time,” he added.

Echoing Kho is Chief Executive Officer and Group Co-founder, Steve Melhuish, “We are excited to see so much interest and enthusiasm we’ve received from property agents, buyers and investors alike who utilise our products and services to explore how they can carry out their property-related decisions faster while on the go."

“PropertyGuru foresaw the enormous potential in investing into mobile technology back in 2011 when 20% of consumers in our target markets were finding their ideal property on mobile.  This figure has doubled within two years, opening up fantastic opportunities for PropertyGuru to be even more connected with them,” he said.

Malaysian Properties Still Going Strong in Singapore

Iskandar properties favoured. RM 48 million transacted overall. Singaporeans make up 90% of buyers.

Kuala Lumpur, August 5, 2013 – Motivated by cooling measures recently introduced by the Singaporean government, Singaporeans continue to view properties across the Causeway favourably, especially in the key locations of the Iskandar region, Johor and traditional hotspots such as Kuala Lumpur.

The PropertyGuru Malaysia Property Show (MPS) in Singapore, held on July 13-14, saw over 2155 Singaporean visitors with over RM30.1 million transacted from more than 30 units sold.

This was followed suit by the inaugural Malaysia Property Show in Johor (MPS JB) held the subsequent weekend on July 27-28, which saw over 1349 visitors transacting a total of RM18.3 million in sales from over 20 units sold.

“A total of RM 48.4 million in sales was transacted in just two weekends as a result of our Malaysia Property Shows in Singapore and Johor. This is a telling sign that Malaysia properties are still highly sought after,” said Gerard Kho, Country Manager, PropertyGuru Malaysia.

“Reception for the first Malaysia Property Showcase in Johor was especially positive as it was the first time visitors were able to visit the actual showroom gallery or the site of the property before purchasing. Shuttle buses were provided from the event venue and pick up was also available from Singapore to Johor,” mentioned Kho.

Among factors fuelling demand are higher property prices in Singapore, existing cooling measures and most recently, the introduction of a new Total Debt Servicing Ratio (TDSR) that requires Singaporean loan providers to take borrowers' other outstanding debts into account before granting property loans.

“The momentum for Malaysian properties among Singaporeans remains strong. What’s interesting is that we notice a growing interest in Iskandar Malaysia.

“This shows that Singaporeans are well aware of the developments occurring in Johor and believe in the future prospects of the area.

“It also appears that KL and Penang are now competing with Iskandar Malaysia for the overseas property investor dollar,” shared Steve Melhuish, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PropertyGuru Group.
Statistics from the MPS show an almost equal number of sales transactions for both landed and high-rise residential units.

“With space being a premium in Singapore, it makes perfect sense for Singaporeans to choose Iskandar Malaysia when looking for more spacious condos or even landed properties.  However, we need to look beyond just transaction numbers.

“There are key insights and buying trends happening that are indicative of the bigger property landscape and how Malaysia and Singapore are connected via the Iskandar region,” added Melhuish.

Receiving strong support from Malaysian property developers, both MPS saw participating developers including leading names such as UM Land, UEM Land, Country Garden, OSK Property, Tropicana Danga Cove and Tropicana Danga Bay, KIP Group, Land & General Berhad, HCK Capital Group, Tanah Sutera, Mah Sing, Zhuoyuan Iskandar and Bandar Utama Development Berhad .

“The event has given us a head start on the potential buyer’s needs and expectations. 200 potential buyers have since registered their interest for the Medini Lakeside development by UM Land in Iskandar, Johor,” said Hiew, Deputy General Manager of UM Land.

The Malaysia Property Shows are part of PropertyGuru's monthly international event platform which showcases properties from cities across Asia, leveraging on the popularity of online property search and actual on-ground investments to enable property investors to make smarter property decision faster.

SINGAPORE — 30 April 2013 — LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network on the internet today announced that its membership base in Singapore has surpassed one million, approximately doubling since 2011 when it established a presence in Singapore. Globally, the site attracts more than two new members every second, and has more than 200 million members worldwide.

With this milestone, LinkedIn is now home to about 70% of the country’s professional labor force and student population . The Singapore market is also the fourth in Southeast Asia that surpassed the 1-millon member mark on LinkedIn, after Malaysia (1+ million), Indonesia and The Philippines (both 1.5+ million each).  Other markets in Asia Pacific with more than a million members include Australia (4+ million), India (19+ million) and China (3+ million).

LinkedIn’s Singapore office serves as the company’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, acting as a nexus for LinkedIn’s regional sales and marketing, member engagement, and strategic regional partnerships. In the past two years, in addition to doubling its membership in Singapore; LinkedIn’s staff count has increased more than tenfold to over 90 employees, reflecting the importance of Singapore as a regional hub supporting the company’s nine other Asia-Pacific offices.

Market Share Increases in Malaysia & Asia

Kuala Lumpur, 29 January 2013 – PropertyGuru Group, Asia’s market leader for online residential and commercial property, announced outstanding results for its Malaysian-based portal, PropertyGuru.com.my, with strong emphasis placed on mobile innovation and developing its brand identity, alongside extending its market leadership position in the region with rapid growth in both revenue and traffic numbers.

One of the biggest milestones for PropertyGuru.com.my was the consolidation and major rebranding of its two existing Malaysian property sites, HomeGuru.com.my and Fullhouse.com.my. The project was achieved to leverage on the Company’s brand identity and strength of Singapore’s leading property website, PropertyGuru.com.sg. This has in turn generated 2.5 times growth in revenue attributed to a large growth in agent members, real estate developers and bank clients as well as a rise of 132% in website visitors to reach more than 11 million in comparison to the same period at the end of 2011.

2012 saw PropertyGuru taking the lead in the mobile space in Malaysia with the triple launches of PropertyGuru Malaysia’s consumer mobile app on Android and iPhone platforms as well as the Agent app on Android. The mobile apps have proved to be highly popular since launching in Q3 2012, with both consumers app receiving more than 77,700 downloads within three short months alone, with approximately 20% of all PropertyGuru users are now using mobile phone or tablet to visit the website in Malaysia.

Fuelling progress with strategic investments
An important milestone in 2012 was an approximately SGD60 million minority stake investment inked with ImmobilienScout24, Europe’s top property portal group and subsidiary of global company Deutsche Telekom. The investment is reputed to be one of Asia’s largest online deals for 2012 and serves as a huge endorsement of the future for online property portals.
The deal also reinforced the Group’s vision of expanding its online property portal share in the region as well as gave access to additional talent and expert resources to boost engineering, quality analysis, product development as well as online and trade marketing.

Steve Melhuish, CEO of PropertyGuru Group said, “2012 was an amazing year for PropertyGuru with performance completely exceeding expectations in all countries. I would like to extend a big thank you to our employees, customers and partners for the great support and commitment they’ve shown and I'm sure 2013 will be another exciting year. We’ll continue to create innovation services, our brand and improve the experience for our property searchers and advertiser clients."

总结2012年表现:成长最快的房地产网站PropertyGuru.com.my取得卓越表现

PropertyGuru.com.my其中一项最大的里程碑就是结合并重新塑造现有的两个马来西亚房地产网站品牌,即HomeGuru.com.my和Fullhouse.com.my。

This increase is consistent with the rising demand for the Company’s mobile-base products and services in a fast growing regional mobile market, where total downloads from all PropertyGuru apps have exploded by 1663% since 2011. In Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia combined.

PropertyGuru also recently made headlines at the recent OPP Awards for Excellence by clinching Best Innovation – Gold for mobile applications. The exponential growth in mobile downloads and traffic caps off the Company’s focus on mobile strategy in the region where 12 apps for 4 countries in 3 languages were released within the year.

The mobile app downloads have also contributed towards increasing page views to the PropertyGuru.com.my site, accounting for over 90% increase in web traffic between Q2 and Q3 alone. The number has hit the 3 million mark (September 2012) from approximately 44,500 in May 2012.

This rise in popularity for PropertyGuru.com.my among Malaysians and across the region has been attributed to many factors such as: its positioning as a credible source of market intelligence, extensive site listings, a visible and aggressive brand strategy and the growing familiarity and confidence of the brand among locals.

“Progressively, we are strengthening our dominant presence in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia while closing the gap with our competitors in Malaysia. We have also upped our marketing to grow our visibility and this has helped us to gain more traction in the market.” shared Senior Vice President – International of PropertyGuru, James Sundram.

“Our founding principle has always been education and intelligence – helping more people make more informed property decisions with timely, relevant and insightful content. This brings us closer to them,” added Sundram.
