SCAN獲亞太區ISLA榮譽

SCAN honoured at the (ISC)²® First Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements Programme

Kuala Lumpur, 10 July, 2007 – Professor Dato’ Dr. Norbik Bashah Idris, co-founder and Technical Director of SCAN Associates Berhad, the country’s leading ICT security player, was one of 27 honourees of (ISC)2® (“ISC-squared”)’s inaugural Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) programme, celebrated at a Gala Dinner in Bangkok, Thailand last night.

Recognised for his remarkable focus on nurturing new talents and innovation within the information security industry, Professor Dato’ Dr. Norbik’s post-graduate programme in Information Security in Malaysia at University Technology Malaysia was one of the four distinguished workforce initiatives highlighted at the ceremony, under the Senior IT Security Professional Category, which revealed video interviews with the showcased honourees, their peers and colleagues.

Professor Norbik said, “It is an honour to be singled out by a prestigious body such as (ISC)2. I’d like to dedicate this recognition to every ‘champion’ of information security. Our efforts must continue because promoting security awareness is an ongoing process and battle which cannot be compromised at any level.” Professor Norbik also dedicated his success to his colleagues at the University of Technology Malaysia, at SCAN Associates, and his family.

The other distinguished workforce initiatives led by the honourees who were showcased during the ceremony were as follows.
· Senior non-IT Security Professional Category: Dr. San-Cheng (Simon) Chang, CEO, Acer e-Enabling Data Centre (eDC), Acer, Inc., Taiwan. Dr Chang was recognised for his perseverance on spearheading a team of security professionals in building the Security Operation Centre, or SOC, of Acer that resulted in more secure customer support.

· Senior IT Security Professional Category: Professor Jian-Hua Li, Executive Deputy Dean, School of Information Security Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Prof Li was honoured for his leadership in driving research projects for the State Key Technology R&D Program and in building the Information Security Engineering School in 2000 to resolve the shortage of information security professionals in China.

· IT Security Practitioner Category: Mr Siu Cheong (SC) Leung, CISSP, CISA, CBCP, Founding Chairperson of Professional Information Security Association (PISA), currently Senior Consultant of the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT), Hong Kong, China. Mr Leung was honoured on his dedicated effort for promoting Hong Kong Clean PC Day 2006 project for HKCERT. The objective of the project was to promote product-neutral security awareness in the public.

Ed Zeitler, CISSP, executive director for (ISC)2, said, “We are so grateful that the first ISLA was such a tremendous success and drew so much attention from the information security community throughout Asia-Pacific. I wish to thank the ISLA Nomination Review Committee for their diligent work, as it was so difficult to select the showcases amongst so many impressive initiatives. We are confident that we will organize an equally strong ISLA programme next year and it will become an annual reputable industry event.”

Honourees flew from all parts of Asia-Pacific to attend the Gala Dinner, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan and Thailand. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Rom Hiranpruk, Assistant to the President National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), joined (ISC)² executives and board members to celebrate the honourees, including Ed Zeitler, CISSP, Executive Director, (ISC)², Professor Corey D.
