IDC:亞太區手提電腦今年第三季增長60%

Portable PCs Posted a Record 60% Year-on-year Growth in the Asia/Pacific Region in 3Q07, IDC Says

October 18, 2007 – IDC's preliminary results show that the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) PC market totaled 16.1 million units in the third quarter of 2007, representing a 13% sequential growth and a 24% year-on-year growth. The overall PC market continued its impressive momentum with the region coming in 5% higher than IDC’s initial forecasts and all countries showing year-on-year gains. Portable PCs in particular were a key driver of that, with most markets in the region beating forecasts.

”Portable PCs, particularly those sold through retail channels, continue to blow me away,” said Bryan Ma, Director of Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Research at IDC. ”Even emerging markets that intuitively would gravitate towards lower priced desktop PCs have shown increased interest in notebooks. If things keep going at this pace, the region’s portable PC shipments will likely reach the 20 million unit milestone for the year.”

The Top 5 PC vendors kept their positions in 3Q07, with Lenovo continuing to maintain its leadership in the Asia/Pacific PC market. HP slipped slightly from a stellar 2Q07, but still comfortably retained its number two spot. Third-place Dell regained some lost ground, in part through gains in desktops rather than notebooks. Acer’s new Gemstone design of notebooks helped propel the fourth-place vendor along, while Founder rounded out the Top 5.

While the public sector and a roaring economy continued to support China’s PC market growth of 14% quarter-on-quarter, it was back-to-school demand and aggressive pricing in the portable PC market that was the shining star there. India similarly pushed ahead thanks to increasing consumer awareness and vendor promotions, as did other emerging markets like Malaysia and the Philippines.

“Despite mild sales results at the COMEX show, the Singapore PC market met our expectations for 20% year-on-year growth this quarter, in part due to ongoing demand for portable PCs sold through the retail channel," said Reuben Tan, Research Manager of Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Research at IDC. “Government spending was muted in 3Q07 as the Standard Operating Environment project has been delayed again until early next year.”

Kathy Sin, Research Manager of Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Research at IDC, added, “Hong Kong's PC market grew 39% sequentially this quarter, following strong demand from the education sector during the summer holidays and University Notebook Ownership Program which boosted the overall consumer market. The Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival held in August, along with the back-to-school programs at the retail level, also drove the portables market this quarter.”
