WECHAT USHERS IN 2013 WITH ITS FIRST TVC ON MALAYSIAN SCREENS STARRING SUPER DUO TAIWAN AMBASSADORS – RAINIE YANG AND SHOW LO


Kuala Lumpur, 5 January 2013 – WeChat, the touted all-rounder social messaging application created by China’s Tencent, plans to expand its users in Malaysia’s growing market for smartphone application with its first TV commercial on Malaysian screens beginning this 7th January 2013. WeChat’s growth will soon hit 300 million user accounts milestone globally this January 2013 after hitting its whopping 200 million mark just four months ago.

 “We intend to increase the user adoption in Malaysia through this very first WeChat TVC airing in Malaysia and continue to gain momentum here on top of the already well-developed base of users,” said Louis Song, Country Manager of Malaysia and Singapore in Tencent’s International Business Group. “Malaysia is a very strong market like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand – we are witnessing a strong growth in mobile application platforms.”

WeChat’s star studded TVC for Malaysia features Asian Dancing King, Show Lo and all-rounder artist, Rainie Yang from Taiwan. Their joined forces created “The Super-Duo Ambassadors” leading to an all new mobile messaging application ambassadorship buzz. Both stars’ friendship has stretched over a long period of time and has allowed them to work closely with each other with much understanding. In this 30-seconds TVC, Rainie and Show expresses a hint of romanticism and cheeriness through WeChat’s simplest functions – text messaging, voice messaging and emoticon services. WeChat’s TVC illustrates how WeChat can be of so much convenience even when you are occupied.

 “Moments is one of my favorite WeChat features. I am able to keep in touch with the people I love by simply posting up images of my daily stories alongside captions to further elaborate the image. There, a sense of communication happens too as people start commenting on the images,” Show said. Rainie enjoys the WeChat Group Chat function as it “conveniently helps me arrange meet-ups with my friends”.
