Free Net Receives RM50,000 Reimbursement from MDeC for Completing ISO 27001:2005 Certification

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – December 10, 2007 – The national custodian of ICT development and promotions, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) today presented Free Net Business Solutions Sdn. Bhd. with a cheque for RM50,000 for completing the ISO 27001:2005 Certification.

The amount constituted 50 per cent reimbursement of the cost Free Net incurred to complete the ISO 27001:2005 certification, an internationally recognised standard for information protection, through the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Programme (MSC Malaysia CDP) MYISMS programme.

The 50 per cent reimbursement cheque which represents one of the incentives that suitable MSC Malaysia status companies can count on when going for different certifications under the MSC Malaysia CDP, was presented by Muhundhan Kamarapullai, the MSC Malaysia CDP, MYISMS Program Manager, to Billy Lee, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Free Net Business Solutions.

Free Net Business Solutions began the ISO 27001 certification process in December 2006 and completed it in June 2007.

“After we received the ISO 27001 certification, Free Net was able to bid for overseas contracts that required the certification. Already, we have seen a 10% - 15% increase in the number of our overseas customers and this has resulted in a 20% increase in our international revenue,” said Lee. “In 2008, we expect a further 10% rise in international revenue through overseas customers,” said Lee.

Free Net Business Solutions is an IT outsourcing company that provides managed services, help desk support, data centres and IT continuity services and infrastructure support to customers in Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. “Our job is to manage our customer's information. With the ISO 27001 certification we are able to assure our customers that we have international standards of policies, procedures and framework for information security in place,” he added.

The MSC Malaysia CDP is designed to help local ICT organisations develop their capabilities in delivering quality products and services in an increasingly demanding, competitive and sophisticated global market. To date, 600 organisations have benefited from these programmes in 2007 alone and more than 100 have been certified since the programme was launched in 2004.

“The MYISMS programme was established to help MSC Malaysia status companies increase their global competitiveness by adopting ISO 27001 standards. The programme provides guidance and training to these companies, and also financial support by advising them how they to reduce the cost of certification and by reimbursing successful companies with up to 50% of the cost of certification. We are very pleased to present Free Net Business Solutions with the very first reimbursement cheque issued through the MYISMS programme,” said Muhundhan.

Presently, the MSC CDP offers programmes in Project Management (PMP), Software Development (SPI & QuESTS), Software Testing (SADC STCD and SPPC), Information Security (MYISMS), IT Services Management (MYITSM), MSC Malaysia Six Sigma, Organisation Quality Management (oQms), and, MSC Malaysia Product Showcasing Programme.

The number of MSC Malaysia status companies showing interest in the MSC Malaysia CDP has also grown by leaps and bounds as their top management realizes the need to be better equipped to play in the global market. Global standards certifications help them be more efficient as best practices can be easily replicated within their new teams and offices when they decide to branch out of Malaysia; their customers are impressed with good methodology and practices, and their bottom lines are improved.
