MDeC Honours 54 MSC Malaysia Status Companies for Achieving Global Standards Certifications

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – December 13, 2007 – The national custodian of ICT development and promotions, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) today recognised the achievements of 54 MSC Malaysia Status companies that earned international standards certifications this year. At a gala dinner held here, representatives from the companies received letters of recognition from MDeC Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali and MDeC Chief Executive Officer Dato' Badlisham Ghazali.

MDeC in turn received a Special Recognition from the world-renowned Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Melon University for its CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) initiatives in Malaysia. In 2004 there was only one CMMI-assessed company in Malaysia; through MDeC's efforts there are today 37 CMMI-assessed MSC Malaysia Status companies.

This year, through the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Programme (MSC Malaysia CDP), 11 MSC Malaysia Status companies successfully completed CMMI assessment; three companies earned ISO 9001 certification, a Quality Management Standard; four companies achieved the ISO 27001 certification, an Information Security Management Standard; two companies earned ISO 20000, an IT Service Management Standard; six companies completed SADC (Solution Assessment & Development Centre) certification; and individuals from 29 companies earned the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.

“The MSC Malaysia CDP is designed to help local ICT organisations develop their capabilities in delivering quality products and services in an increasingly demanding, competitive and sophisticated global market. To date, 600 organisations have benefited from these programmes in 2007 alone, and more than 100 have been certified since the programme was launched in 2004,” said Badlisham.

“The number of MSC Malaysia status companies showing interest in the MSC Malaysia CDP has also grown by leaps and bounds as their top management realises the need to be better equipped to play in the global market. Global standards certifications help them be more efficient as best practices can be easily replicated within their new teams and offices when they decide to branch out of Malaysia; their customers are impressed with good methodology and practices, and their bottom lines are improved,” said Badlisham.

“In 2008, additional capability development programmes are being planned especially in the area of strategic planning, leadership and marketing. I therefore urge the MSC Malaysia Status companies to seize this opportunity to further improve your capability as we face the emerging trends of globalisation, said MDeC Vice President and Head of Capacity Development Division Ng Wan Peng.

The MSC Malaysia CDP not only assists companies achieve certifications. Participating organisations also enjoy additional benefits from monthly dialogues, seminars, clinics and workshops developed to gear them up to achieve certifications and later ensure business continuity. Upon completion, the successful programme participants are partly reimbursed from the total project cost.

Presently, the MSC Malaysia CDP offers programmes in Project Management (PMP), Software Development (SPI & QuESTS), Software Testing (SADC STCD and SPPC), Information Security (MYISMS), IT Services Management (MYITSM), MSC Malaysia Six Sigma, Organisation Quality Management (oQms), and, MSC Malaysia Product Showcasing Programme.

MSC Malaysia Status companies generated RM14billion in revenue in 2006 and employed more than 57,000 people. The number is expected to increase significantly over the next few years as MDeC continues its aggressive marketing and promotions activities globally.
