Celcom ensures seamless connection for customers during upcoming elections

Kuala Lumpur, 22 February 2008 – Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad ensures its customers all over the country that they can communicate seamlessly during the upcoming general elections on 8 March 2008, as it has increased its network capacity to accommodate the surge in voice and data traffic.

As the telco that offers the widest network coverage in Malaysia, covering 97% of the populated areas in the country, Celcom customers can expect to remain connected during the election period, no matter where they are. Celcom also offers the widest 2G, 3G and 3.5G coverage in Malaysia.

Based on past experiences during the festive seasons, in which voice and data traffic normally increases, Celcom has effectively handled the increase in calls and SMS traffic. During the recent Chinese New Year celebration, Celcom recorded a 20 percent spike in SMS traffic, without experiencing any traffic congestion. Out of those SMSes, about 90 percent were delivered under 10 seconds.

Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad, said, “Past patterns have shown that the election period will result in an increase in phone and SMS usage, especially the latter. However, we are certain that Celcom’s network is capable of handling the traffic surge for both voice and SMS during this period.

Nevertheless, we will continue to enhance the capacity and quality of our network as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we offer the best network, the fastest SMS delivery and the widest coverage to our customers,” Dato’ Sri Shazalli added.

During the election period, customers can also take advantage of the great deals being offered during the Celcom Sale, which is currently ongoing nationwide and will last until after the elections.
