Autodesk Organises Design Competition 2008 for the Second Year Running with more than RM70,000 Up for Grabs

Kuala Lumpur, March 26, 2008 – The Autodesk Design Competition is back for the second year running, taking up once again the quest of unleashing the creative minds of Malaysian students.

Co-organized by the Department of Polytechnic & Community College Education (EPCCE), Ministry of Higher Education and Design Technology Alliance (M) Sdn Bhd (DTA), and sponsored by Hewlett-Packard (HP), the competition is part of Autodesk’s efforts to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and be recognized for their creativity, innovative thinking, and design expertise.

The competition aims to provide students with an opportunity to learn about engineering and architectural design through a realistic, hands-on problem-solving experience using the computer as a tool. The competition also serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their design skills and gain new perspectives on how design teams from different disciplines approach a common design problem.

“Autodesk is delighted to continue this competition for the second straight year for Malaysian students. Through this competition, Autodesk hopes to help students develop real world skills in design and engineering.” said Denis Branthonne, Regional Director, Autodesk ASEAN during the launch of Autodesk Design Competition 2008 held in Putrajaya recently.

“Initiatives like the Autodesk Design Competition is in-line with the Prime Minister’s mandate in the Budget 2008 for a better collaboration between the Ministry of Education and with private companies. The design competition challenges students to think out-of-the-box, which we recognize as a positive step towards producing world class design engineering students.” commented YBhg. Dato’ Haji Imran Bin Idris, Director General, Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, Ministry of Higher Education who was present at the launch of Autodesk Design Competition 2008.

This year, the design theme is “Urbanisation in Design” and there are two categories for this competition; Building Design and Manufacturing Design. In the Building Design category, participants are required to design a community centre which incorporates a high-quality, environmental-friendly and groundbreaking design with a local tradition and culture approach based on a rural development initiative. Participants entering the Manufacturing Design category are required to submit a playground design with educational elements designed for the rural area. Total prizes worth more than RM70,000 will be awarded to the winning entries in both categories.

The Autodesk Design Competition 2008 is open to all individuals from Government accredited or recognised public or learning institutions under the Ministry of Higher Learning Education i.e. Public Institutions of Higher Learning, Polytechnics, Community College & Private Institutions of Higher Learning who are enrolled in certificates, diploma or degree programme.
