(L-R) Wee Kai Teck, Sales Director, Corporate & Commercial, EMC Computer Systems (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.; Peter Goh, Managing Director, EMC Computer Systems (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.; Michael Lai, Chief Executive Officer, Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.; and Lim Hooi Seeh, VP of Technology, Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.Kuala Lumpur – 2 June 2008 – Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (P1), Malaysia’s first WiMAX licensee to deploy WiMAX services and subsidiary of Green Packet Berhad, announced today that they have selected an information infrastructure solution from EMC Corporation comprising EMC® CLARiiON® CX3-40C high-performance storage system and EMC Celerra® NS40G dedicated IP storage gateway. The new information infrastructure solution will ensure that P1’s customer service capabilities meet and exceed customer expectations.
Michael Lai, P1’s Chief Executive Officer, said “P1 is working towards becoming a world-class provider, offering high-quality, cost-effective data, voice and value-added services to our customers. In order to keep such high standards, we need to be supported by exceptional technology partners. We believe that EMC’s expertise and experience as the world leader in information infrastructure solutions will provide P1 with the right tools to attain our goal of becoming Malaysia’s No.1 converged telecommunications services provider.”
“While using the EMC information infrastructure to support our billing operations is primarily an internal efficiencies improvement, our customers will also benefit through accurate billing, prompt customer service and fast billing disputes resolutions, ensuing from the longer availability of customers’ bills online”, added Lim Hooi Seeh, Vice President of Technology at P1.
In the past, business were faced with making a difficult choice between the high-performance of Fibre Channel (FC) and the affordability and ease-of-use of iSCSI which required a separate system which increased costs and management complexity. With EMC’s CLARiiON CX3 and the NS40G NAS gateway, P1 is able to fully and seamlessly use both, using the FC connectivity for high-performance applications when needed – like billing and VoIP, and iSCSI to handle large volumes of multimedia content.
“As providers transition from traditional to next generation offerings, the challenge to bridge the gap between the service and its efficient delivery, remains. P1 has an impressive vision and a strong business plan for delivery of quality broadband and value added services and EMC is 100 percent focused on helping them manage all aspects of their business information from creation to deletion in the most cost-effective way”, said Peter Goh, Managing Director, EMC Malaysia.
The move completes yet another important milestone in P1’s preparations to become the first to commercially deploy mobile WiMAX in the 2.3GHz band in Malaysia by June 2008.
