SOLUTIONS TO THE CYBER SECURITY EPIDEMIC:A PANACEA OR PLACEBO?

EC-Council to host inaugural APAC Roundtable Forum (ECCRF) Cyber Warfare & Cyber Crime”

KUALA LUMPUR, September 29, 2008 – EC-Council, the worlds’ leading e-business and security certification organization, will be hosting the inaugural Asia Pacific (APAC) Roundtable Forum (ECCRF) on “Modern Defenses Against 21st Century Cyber Warfare & Cyber Crime” in conjunction with the H@cker Halted Conference which is to be held in Sunway Convention Centre, Malaysia from November 3 – 6, 2008.

ECCRF, to be held on November 6, 2008, aims to congregate selected invited regional defense forces, information security community and corporations on one platform to discuss and develop pro active responses and defenses’ towards rising cyber warfare, cyber terrorism and cyber crimes.

The forum will be chaired by EC-Council President, Mr Jay Bavisi and co-chaired by Prof Dr Lech J. Janczewski, the Associate Professor of the University of Auckland, New Zealand and Chairman of the New Zealand Information Security Forum.

Prof Dr Janczewski expressed, “In 2000, a 16 year old became the first juvenile to be charged for systems intrusion of high profile organizations. Cracking into NASA computers, he stole software worth US 1.7 million forcing NASA to shut down its systems.”

“Most recently, hackers attacked and hijacked websites belonging to Georgia and rerouted internet traffic to servers located in Russia and Turkey as the country loomed in clashes. The attacks were reminiscent of coordinated campaigns against Estonian government websites in 2007.”

“EC Councils’ drive to organize the Roundtable Forum is a relevant necessity as the region needs to place greater importance on their organizations cyber security to ensure social and economic stability,” continued Prof Dr Janczewski.

Mr Jay Bavisi said, “Large numbers of commercial applications are being produced daily, creating new opportunities for malicious attacks to take place and to bring down commercial institutions and government assets. Each day new and stronger attacks are launched across the globe and we need to respond.”


“Our aim is to raise the awareness on information security and available preventive measures so we can stay ahead of cyber criminals,” explained Jay.
