Maxis Delivers Revolutionary BlackBerry Storm in Malaysia

Storm leaves Loyal Maxis Customers Satisfied

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 5 May 2009 – Maxis Communications Berhad (“Maxis”) yesterday delivered the first units of the much-anticipated BlackBerry® Storm™ smartphone to approximately 300 postpaid customers. These customers were among the many Maxis subscribers who had pre-booked their BlackBerry Storm online from 6 to 24 April. They collected their units from the Maxis Centre in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Designed to satisfy the needs of both consumers and business customers, the BlackBerry Storm has a three-pronged advantage. It is the first BlackBerry to offer the world's first “clickable” touch-screen which enables efficient application navigation. Secondly, the BlackBerry Storm features a 3.2 inch wide screen, the largest high resolution display ever of a BlackBerry device, enabling enhanced current BlackBerry applications such as browsing and multimedia. Thirdly, the BlackBerry Storm offers customers more convenient access to download a range of practical and entertaining applications such as Twitter, MySpace and Flickr.

Demand for the BlackBerry Storm has exceeded expectations, with hundreds of Maxis postpaid and enterprise customers queuing up online to make their bookings. This in line with the global excitement surrounding this model, due to its revolutionary features, user-friendliness, sleek design, high definition display and additional lifestyle features.

“Maxis is proud to deliver the BlackBerry Storm to our customers, on time and as promised,” said Matthew Willsher, Maxis’ Chief Marketing Officer. “The BlackBerry Storm has many fans among our loyal customers, and we felt that we owed it to them to ensure that they are among the first Malaysians to own one.”

Maxis postpaid customer, Zainal Abidin Abu Bakar, who was at the Maxis Centre today said this after collecting his BlackBerry Storm unit: “I am very happy with it, especially with the free gifts that I got as one of first 300 customers to book the Storm. Today, I received a free BlackBerry charging pod and leather holster, and Jabra Bluetooth headset. These will definitely enhance my experience of the Storm.

“It is also my first time on the BlackBerry platform. The BlackBerry Storm looks great and I love the features such as push email and the camera function. The design is also compact. I’m definitely going to enjoy the Storm.”

Regular BlackBerry user, Ahmad Marzuki Haji Ahmad, was happy to upgrade to the BlackBerry Storm: “I am very much looking forward to using my BlackBerry Storm. I called Maxis customer service as soon as I heard about it as I wanted to be among the first to book one. I am certain the Storm will help improve efficiency and productivity, especially with email management.”
Another satisfied customer, Hezrain Fino said: “I am going to use my unit mainly for work purposes. I hear that it’s great with push email and so much more.”

Willsher added, “We are certain that the innovative BlackBerry Storm, with its unique touch-screen features, will meet both the communications and multimedia needs of our customers. Maxis is investing nearly RM1.6 billion into our networks this year. Over the coming months we will continue a comprehensive upgrade and expansion programme that will further enhance coverage and performance, including our high speed 3G data network. Maxis customers of BlackBerry Storm will benefit from our reliable high-speed networks for rich Internet browsing and multimedia applications.

“Maxis is also bringing the BlackBerry experience closer to our customers at Maxis Centres and Maxis Exclusive Partners nationwide. Customers can look forward to a more personal and exciting BlackBerry experience from this May onwards.”

Customers who pre-booked their BlackBerry Storm units online collected their units from 4 to 5 May 2009. Maxis also announced that customers who have not made online pre-bookings may purchase their BlackBerry Storm units from Maxis centres from 6 May 2009 onwards. The BlackBerry Storm is offered to Maxis customers at the retail price of RM2,499 (without contract and with a BlackBerry service package); and at RM2,199, if purchased with a Value 150 postpaid plan that comes with a 24-month contract and a BlackBerry service package.
