TM PARTICIPATES IN MALAYSIA SOCIAL MEDIA WEEK 2012

TM supports the event as the Official Broadband Provider

Keeping abreast with the current social media trends in Malaysia, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is participating in the inaugural Malaysia Social Media Week 2012 (MSMW 2012) as the Official Broadband Provider of the event. MSMW 2012, being held from today, 13 February until 17 February 2012, is a national event which congregates the social media communities and connects people, content and conversations around emerging trends in social and mobile media.

Commenting on the Company’s participation, Dato’ Rozalila Abd. Rahman, Chief Marketing Officer, TM said, “TM is proud to be able to play our role as the Official Broadband Provider for this inaugural event for the social media communities. This is one of our various initiatives to create awareness on the importance of social media amongst the public, how it affects our daily life and the responsibilities that come with being a Netizen. Through this platform, we are also able to boost the Internet usage amongst Malaysians towards realising Government’s aspiration of establishing an ICT literate nation.”TM’s booth at the Malaysia Social Media Week 2012 event.

“As Malaysia’s Broadband Champion, it is natural for TM to give our support towards this event and with youth being the main target group, this is indeed the way to enhance their knowledge and encourage their use of Internet while at the same time educating them on the vast benefits of a connected world, which allows them to connect, communicate and collaborate,” added Dato’ Rozalila.

As the Official Broadband Provider of MSMW 2012, TM is equipping the event venue, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), with WiFi access throughout the 5-day event. As a testament of its support for some of the best work from the fraternity of global and local social media practitioners, TM is also sponsoring the “Social Media Champion Award” for The World Bloggers & Social Media Awards 2012 to recognise, reward and honor the top social media champion for their contribution to social media landscape as a whole. Besides that, TM is also supporting the event by leveraging on its social media platforms to promote the event i.e. through its corporate website (www.tm.com.my), TM’s corporate Twitter accounts (@TMCorp and @TMConnects), its lifestyle portal EveryoneConnects (www.everyoneconnects.net) and EveryoneConnects Facebook page (www.facebook.com/EveryoneConnects).

In support of MSMW 2012, TM will also be organising its own Social Media Week at its headquarters. With the same objective of creating awareness on the importance of social media and its influence, but skewed towards its employees, various activities have been lined up for the week including circulation of Social Media Daily Tips and Internet Security Awareness Daily Tips to all staff nationwide, blog writing contest, photography competition, Social Media exhibition and Social Media workshop. The first TM staff Tweetup will also be held on 17 February 2012 which will give TM employees the opportunity to have an encounter with some of the prominent social media community members including Ben of FlyFM, @aizadfahmy and @klubbkiddkl, in addition to the chance of winning some exciting lucky draw prizes.
