Kreative.Asia 2012: Continuing The Progress Of Malaysia’s Creative Industry

World renowned creative icons share their insights with the nation’s creative folk

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23, 2012 – Kreative.Asia 2012, the annual creative summit organised by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) in collaboration with official partner X Media Lab, concluded on April 8, 2012 at KL Hilton with 221 participants taking part in various “master classes” throughout the three-day event.

Held for the third time since it was first introduced in 2009, Kreative.Asia 2012 is an initiative from MDeC’s Kre8tif! platform that brings together the world’s top creative minds to share their experience, insights and knowledge in the field of creative multimedia and animation.Participants at this year’s Kreative.Asia 2012 attending one of the numerous Master Classes organised then.

Speaking about the summit Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, CEO of MDeC said “I am proud that Malaysia continues to grow through programmes such as this, as it will help provide local and regional creative talents with the right information to ignite the flame that will see us consistently developing world-class creative content. To date, Malaysia has introduced a host of a Malaysian animation movies and series to the international arena such as the Emmy-nominated feature, Saladin and the worldwide hit, Upin and Ipin. We intend to continue this creative summit in the hope of creating and featuring more Malaysian creative multimedia icons in the future.”

Kreative.Asia had participants engaged in forums and “master classes” on the building blocks of developing world-class creative content with over 30 creative content experts from Malaysia and abroad, including: -

Caitlin Burns, Transmedia Producer with Starlight Runner Entertainment, New York. She has worked on blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Fairies and Tron Legacy, James Cameron’s Avatar, Halo for Microsoft, Happiness Factory for The Coca-Cola Company and Transformers for Hasbro. Caitlin, shared her views on Transmedia Storytelling as a Practioner in some of her master classes.

Ming Chan, CEO The1stMovement Inc, recipient of the prestigious Emmy® Award in Interactive Media, has created innovative digital assignments for some of the world's most renowned brands including 20th Century Fox, ABC, Adobe, Apple, AMD, Cisco, Disney, Microsoft, Nike, HP, Intel, Sun Microsytems, Sony Pictures and more. Ming touched on Why Digital Media Is Killing Traditional Advertising? while he conducted his master class during the summit.

Esther Lim, a well-respected Digital Marketing Leader, Transmedia Producer, Social Media Strategist, and Game Analyst with over 15 years of experience creating digital, social media and transmedia storytelling programs for Fortune 500 brands. She spoke on Constructing Scalable Social Business Practices and communities during her sessions. She also shared intriguing insights into the latest trends in managing social media and harnessing the data collected.

Leah Hoyer, Levity Entertainment Group; Former Director of Development, Walt Disney Co., Los Angeles, has overseen more than 200 hours of programming for network and cable television, both in the US as well as internationally, for ABC, Disney Channel, UPN, Toon Disney, and Disney XD networks worldwide. Leah held a lively master class discussion on Developing Properties for Transmedia Storytelling.
Noah Falstein, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Suddenly Social, addressing the participants on, ‘Realtime Connected Play.’
