U Mobile Brings Hari Raya Cheer to Kids at UMMC’s Children’s Oncology Ward
Kuala Lumpur, 16 August 2012 – A great sense of joy and happiness permeated through the Children’s Oncology Ward at University Malaysia Medical Centre (UMMC) today, when 24 kids, their parents and guardians, and hospital personnel were treated to an early Raya celebration by U Mobile Sdn Bhd.
The kids of all ages, who are undergoing treatment for cancer, had big smiles on their faces as they received their festive goodies.
“We are delighted to bring festive cheer to the children and their families and usher in an early Raya celebration,” Jaffa said. “We first worked with UMMC back in June, when we launched our U Mobile Surf Zone here in the Children’s Oncology Ward, providing a free WiFi service which utilises our own-built 42Mbps network,” explained Jaffa. “We are pleased to learn that the service is being well utilised and is making a difference in the lives of the patients and parents here in the hospital.”
Jaffa added that the U Mobile Surf Zone enabled everyone with a mobile device to use U Mobile’s high speed Internet, the fastest 3G broadband in the nation, be it for emails or social media use and to send Hari Raya wishes home. In fact, during the Raya celebration in the ward, the patients and their parents sent personal Raya wishes to their friends and families using a special app designed by U Mobile especially for the festive season.
By logging to the site www.Ueratkanlagi.my, members of the public with Facebook accounts can send Raya messages in text, voice or video format by following a few simple steps. Visitors to the site too will be treated with a series of webisodes themed around the Hari Raya celebration.
The free WiFi service in the Oncology ward is benefiting the children and their parents who keep themselves updated with news, help pass the time by watching movies and keep in contact with their loved ones. U Mobile’s Surf Zone initiative also included the sponsoring of 10 units of tablet PCs to the ward for the patients and families to use.
