TM SIGNS COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS TOWARDS SMART AND CONNECTED NUSAJAYA


4 December 2012. Nusajaya, Johor. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today formalised two (2) collaboration agreements for the provisioning of telecommunications and ICT infrastructure and services towards realising the aspiration of a smart and connected Nusajaya.

The 2 collaborations are:

Collaboration Agreement on the provision of communication & ICT infrastructure and telecommunications services to realise the aspirations of a smart and connected Nusajaya, Iskandar Malaysia between UEM Land Berhad (UEM Land), Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) and TM; and

Collaboration Agreement on the opportunities available for providing smart city & smart building infrastructure & services, the establishment of a managed services operating company (MSCo) and the potential set-up of a Global Innovation Centre (GIC) to realise the smart and connected  Nusajaya aspirations, between TM, UEM Land, IIB, Centios Co Ltd (Centios) and Cisco System International B.V. (Cisco)

The collaboration between the parties was signified by a document exchange ceremony held in conjunction with the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Nusajaya. The ceremony was witnessed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, together with several other country leaders and representatives from Comoros, Singapore, Pakistan, Qatar, Moro Islamic Liberation Front and President of the Islamic Liberation Front. Also in attendance was the Chief Minister of Johor YAB Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani Bin Othman and the WIEF Chairman, Tun Musa Hitam.

Present to exchange the documents for the collaboration between TM, UEM Land and IIB were Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of IIB and Dato’ Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Land.

Exchanging the documents for the five (5) party collaborations between TM, UEM Land, IIB, Centios and Cisco were Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of IIB, Dato’ Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Land, Hung Kwon Song, representative Director and Chief Executive Officer of Centios and Yuri Wahab, Cisco’s Managing Director for Malaysia.

The first collaboration will see the parties working together in several key areas, including provisioning of communication infrastructure and services for both residential and business property developments in Nusajaya, establishment of data centre, ICT/BPO service offerings as well as extending TM WiFi services to cover more sites in Nusajaya. TM will also be establishing a one stop center in Nusajaya to support the telecommunications and ICT requirements of enterprises and businesses in the area.
Under the second agreement, TM, UEM Land, IIB, Centios and Cisco agreed to jointly further explore the establishment of a Managed Services operating company (MSCo) that will deliver smart city infrastructure and services in Nusajaya; and the potential set-up of a Global Innovation Centre (GIC) in Nusajaya. It is envisaged that the GIC will showcase a Smart City Experience Centre, develop and certify highly skilled human capital to design, build and operate a smart city, and act as a platform for the testing and localisation of new smart city solutions and services.

Meanwhile Yuri Wahab, Cisco’s Managing Director for Cisco in Malaysia said, “Nusajaya is a strategic economic and financial hub and this collaboration between Cisco and UEM Land Holdings, Iskandar Investment, TM and Centios will develop a connected Nusajaya, where smart services will help citizens to live in greener, smarter, secure and sustainable community.”

Hung Kwon Song, representative Director and Chief Executive Officer of Centios said, “This collaboration brings into light the vision of a bright future in which life is smarter and greener, promising Nusajaya a sustainable development towards becoming the centre of the region in business, industry, and technology.”

True to its leadership role, TM continues to support the development of Nusajaya by providing state-of-the-art technology and services capitalising on its superior domestic network infrastructure connectivity and extensive global reach.

With the enhanced communications services and infrastructure in the area, Nusajaya is set to become a smart and connected city. The services include TM’s High Speed Broadband – UniFi and TM WiFi which enable multi-national corporations (MNCs), businesses and even the communities residing in Nusajaya to enjoy advanced connectivity, in line with TM’s aspiration to bring an enhanced and integrated digital lifestyle to Malaysians.

TM has made its UniFi service available in Nusajaya since July 2010 with more than 2,200 premises passed. In addition, TM had successfully brought UniFi to all the five (5) flagship zones in Iskandar Malaysia covering more than 67,000 premises passed, yet another notable achievement for the service.

For TM, Nusajaya is also very strategic in terms of its proximity to Singapore. In the effort to attract more investments into Nusajaya, TM will also embark on initiatives to improve connectivity between the two countries.

One such initiative is its My1Hub, which aims to establish a neutral hub in the region to provide complete solution to TM’s partners. Hence, a TM partner would enjoy a single seamless TM domestic service no matter where they sign up, all at the same price.

TM, through its Global office and affiliates in Singapore, is also offering connectivity services and end-to-end solutions to the MNCs based in Nusajaya, fulfilling their needs to have direct and reliable connectivity to their head offices and branches in Singapore, hence providing a more comprehensive approach towards Nusajaya connectivity requirements.
