Customers can now communicate and collaborate even better with their overseas business partners
VADS Berhad (VADS), the Information Communication Technology (ICT)/Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), today signed an agreement with AT&T*, enabling VADS Managed TelePresence customers to connect to 80 countries worldwide.
Telepresence is the next generation video conferencing technology that allows virtual meetings to be conducted using high-definition video and audio. The agreement was signed by En Ahmad Azhar Yahya, Chief Executive Officer of VADS and Mr. John Slamecka, Vice President of Global Wholesale and Access Management of AT&T via a telepresence session. Also present to witness the signing was Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, Director, NKRA (RBI) & NKEA (CCI, Agriculture) from Pemandu.
With this agreement, VADS Managed TelePresence customers can now have a better quality interaction and collaboration with other companies across multiple locations worldwide minimising travel cost and time. The AT&T Business Exchange directly supports telepresence in more than 130 companies and organisations and over 50 additional customers through interconnection with other telepresence providers, and with thousands of telepresence managed or customer owned endpoints in 80 countries worldwide, with plans to add other countries and further interconnection with other carriers in the future.
Last year, VADS collaborated with CISCO to build the first Telepresence Exchange (VADS-TPX) in Malaysia in line with the Government’s National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) – Communications Content and Infrastructure; the initial phase emphasising on enhanced communications through telepresence and teleworking. VADS-TPX core infrastructure resides in VADS Data Centre and runs on a highly secure and resilient network.

“We are basically changing the way people communicate. People are moving from voice and text communication to video communication. There are many video communication services in the market but they may not fulfil greater business needs which include a fully immersive experience, reliability and security. With VADS TPX, we have enabled our customers to conduct business meetings with their counterparts in the region without them having to leave their respective offices,” said Ahmad Azhar Yahya.
“With this collaboration, we have expanded our reach to 80 countries worldwide, ensuring our customers have the same extensive access. Telepresence not only increases productivity, it accelerates the decision making process, reduces travel time and costs which directly reduces our carbon footprint,” he further added.
“We are delighted to be working with VADS to help transform business communications in Malaysia with Telepresence. Telepresence transforms the way business meetings are conducted around the world, reducing costs and improving productivity. It allows for more frequent meetings anytime, anywhere and with anyone you do business," said John Slamecka, Vice President of Global Wholesale and Access Management at AT&T.
VADS Managed TelePresence Service is offered in three different ways; Private Room, Public Room and Event Based. The service rendered is inclusive of managed end-to-end high-quality service with simplified provisioning, scheduling, a 24/7 helpdesk, technical support and various types of endpoints as a bundled package. It offers peace of mind and simplicity, making meetings via TelePresence as easy as making a phone call.
The ability to offer managed telepresence as a service will raise the competitiveness of Malaysia as a regional hub and as a business centre while providing opportunities for organisations to embrace new technologies towards becoming a connected nation.
