Lenovo Brings Broad Range of Smartphones to Malaysia

Now Available at Retail and Online Stores

KUALA LUMPUR – May 30, 2013: Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) pulled the wraps off a line-up of its latest smartphones today, showing off new models from entry-level smartphones to top-end performance devices. Each Lenovo smartphone is designed with specific customer needs in mind and inspired by consumers in emerging markets, including Malaysia. Today’s launch officially marks the first time customers in Malaysia can purchase Lenovo smartphones locally, as Lenovo, already the world’s third largest maker of smart connected devices  expands its offering here.

“Smartphones are a critical component of Lenovo’s PC+ strategy. In Malaysia, the market has changed significantly as the nation has seen a sharp rise in smartphone ownership, which we are fully-prepared to leverage on. While there is still opportunity in PCs, most of the new growth will be in PC+ devices which include the smartphone market,” commented Khoo Hung Chuan, Country General Manager, Lenovo Malaysia.

At the front of Lenovo’s smartphone charge is the Lenovo K900 Smartphone, the company’s flagship model, intended for users who want the best of the best. Unique to the range, the K900 sports a unibody design in stainless steel alloy, for a distinctive look and feel. Across the range, the Lenovo designers have focused on keeping the new smartphones thin and light without sacrificing performance. Most of the phones in the portfolio run on quad-core processors, while many of them offer dual-SIM capabilities.

“Intel and Lenovo have raised the bar for smartphones with the Lenovo K900. Our teams worked closely to innovate around a number of important features and capabilities that our customers care most about, such as power consumption, application switching and camera functionality. The Lenovo design team further took this powerful platform and wrapped it up in a very attractive package with the K900. We are proud to be teaming with Lenovo to bring these innovations to market,” said Prakash Mallya, Country Manager, Sales and Marketing, Malaysia and Singapore.

In addition, Lenovo has tapped NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant to help promote its new smartphones in television and print advertisements and on social media sites in China and Southeast Asia, citing the athlete’s unique style. Bryant is widely recognized throughout the region and will boost consumer awareness of Lenovo smartphones in markets such as Malaysia. Later this summer, Bryant will also participate in several Lenovo events in Asia.

Speaking on the new smartphones and the selection of Kobe Bryant as a partner, vice president and head of Lenovo’s mobile business unit, Chen Wenhui said, “Kobe Bryant knows that teamwork is critical for success. At Lenovo, teamwork guides the entire process of bringing a new smartphone to market, from R&D and manufacturing to marketing and sales. We’ve designed the new Lenovo smartphones to be a winning team of products, with different phones playing different roles.”

K900
As smartphones have become ubiquitous, customer demands on “top-of-the-line” devices have increased, with design and usability growing in importance. The K900 resets the bar on these aspects. At 6.9mm, the K900 is the thinnest phone in its class by a wide margin and weighs in at a mere 162g, making it a device that unobtrusively slips into a jacket pocket or handbag. Made from a composite of stainless steel alloy and polycarbonate in a Unibody mold, the K900 manages to stay strong and look sharp while maintaining its slim profile.

While the K900 is certainly sleek, it does not ignore the emerging trend toward larger and clearer displays on smartphones. The K900 is one of the first smartphones in the world to combine a 5.5” IPS display with 1080p full high-definition resolution performance at 400+ pixels-per-inch, all under the latest, touch-capacitive Gorilla Glass 2. This gives the K900 supreme clarity and crispness along with plenty of space to capture the nuances of high-definition photos and video, as well as for viewing standard-size web pages.

Lenovo K900 is the first smartphone in the world to leverage the latest Intel® Atom™ Z2580 processor, a dual core chip, which runs up to 2.0GHz and utilizes Intel® Hyper-Threading technology to boost performance efficiency. The Intel-powered device also features an Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator enging running a PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU, which triples graphics performance over the previous generation.  This makes the Lenovo K900 very responsive, especially for key functions such as web-browsing, multi-tasking and application-switching.

The K900’s camera stands out as one of the smartphone’s most distinguished features. As with other functions on the K900, Lenovo has overhauled the camera completely, and delivered a package that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Megapixels is the first specification that many users recognize for digital cameras, and with 13MP, the K900 ranks at the top of its class in this aspect and combines this with an industry-leading, Sony® Exmor BSI sensor for what would already be considered outstanding performance.

With the K900 though, the team has gone even further. Recognizing that customers often need to take clear, flash-less photos in low-light, Lenovo has equipped the K900 with an F1.8 focal length lens, making it the first smartphone to offer such a wide aperture on its camera. Combined with its other specifications, the K900 is now a legitimate stand-in for a digital camera in a smartphone. In addition to these improvements to the rear camera, the front camera has also been widened to an 88⁰ viewing angle, the widest available on a smartphone front camera for convenient self-photos and video calls.

The Lenovo K900 smartphone will be available in July 2013 starting from RM 1,699.00.

P780
For business and professional users, smartphones must be robust and reliable. Busy executives need access 24/7, even when they’re far from a base station or charging point. The latest entry in Lenovo’s popular P-series smartphones, the Lenovo P780 smartphone boasts a 4000mAH battery, the best in its class, coupled with Lenovo Smart Energy software and fake battery detection, helping the device deliver up to 25 days of active standby time and the best battery life of all smartphones in the market today. The S-series is designed for young, active networkers, social media mavens and gamers. The S920’s rear-mounted “super camera” shoots at 8MP for clearer images, and allows for up to 100 consecutive shots in burst mode, capturing still shots within video and advanced photo editing functions. Backed by a 1.2GHz, quad-core processor, the S920 handles videos and demanding game graphics with ease. All the while, the S920 looks and feels great. The phone weighs only 159g and has a depth of merely 7.9mm, with a unique “hourglass” design that gives it an even slimmer feel and helps it stand out from the crowd.

S820
The strikingly sleek design of the Lenovo S820 is home to a powerful multimedia phone that feels different from the time you first hold the smartphone in your hands. Behind the beautifully crafted curved glass exterior lies a powerful quad core processor for an ultra-smooth Android experience. This, in tandem with its large 4.7” HD screen, brings users sharper images and a better viewing experience when gaming, watching videos or surfing.  The S820’s high-res 12MP camera captures amazing details and ultra-fine images, and comes with the SuperCamera software allowing you to do amazing things like shooting 100 images continuously in burst mode or take a still while capturing video.

A706
Packed with advanced features and leveraging a 1.2GHz, quad-core processor and 1GB RAM, the Lenovo A706 smartphone defies the conventional logic that consumers seeking a value-for-money smartphone must sacrifice performance. With Dolby Digital Plus technology and a 4.5” IPS display, the A706 handles video and games with minimal lag and boasts the richer bass response and lifelike sound quality that are generally reserved for much pricier devices. Dual SIM slots and a 5MP camera round out the rest of the key features of the A706, which runs on the Android v4.1 JellyBean OS.

The Lenovo A706 smartphone will be available in June 2013 starting from RM 699.00.

The Lenovo A390 smartphone will be available in June 2013 starting from RM 319.00.
