Gear Up for TanksAsia Season 2

Prizes worth USD100,000 up for grabs

October 23, 2013 — Wargaming, the leading free-to-play MMO developer and publisher, today announced the second season of the TanksAsia Masters. A total prize pool of USD100,000 are up for grabs through this final segment of the TanksAsia League.

64 teams across the Asia Pacific region registered for the second season and the first match of the Challenge series started on 20 October.

The league is divided into three tiers – Challenge, Regular and Masters. Each week, battles will be fought to determine the tier placings of the teams and points will be awarded accordingly. At the end of the season, the points earned by the teams will be accumulated.

The Challenge Series is a weekly online qualifier which will see the top four teams advance to Regular Series to compete in a round of eight against four teams (5th-8th placing in Season 1). During the first week, the top four teams from Challenge Series will be promoted to Regular Series to compete against the top four teams from Season 1 on the Master Series. Subsequently, the bottom four teams of Masters Series will be demoted to Regular Series. Teams who are demoted from Regular Series are automatically seeded into Challenge Series.

Following the completion of the league, there will be a playoff series where the six winners of each country’s National Series are joined by the 4th and 5th place holders from the Master series to play in a series of knock-out matches. Winning teams of the quarter finals will compete against the 2nd and 3rd place holders from the Masters series in the semi-finals and the winning teams will then face off against the 1st placed team from the Masters series in the Grand Final.
The semi-finals and the Grand Final will be held at the Taipei Game Show in January next year. The winning team of TanksAsia Season 2 will walk away with US$60,000 in prize money.

“The game is turning into a great communication platform that combines gaming communities of different countries and regions. TanksAsia Season 1 was the first competitive league in this region and we were encouraged by the overwhelming response.

We are encouraged by the response to Season 2 and will certainly strive to organise more regional activities and tournaments for our supporters in the future,” said Jasper Nicolas, General Manager of Wargaming SEA.

At the end of TanksAsia Masters Season 2, all eight teams that have managed to enter the Playoffs round will be awarded points accordingly based on their performance throughout the Playoffs phase. These points are permanent for every team.

The teams with the most points across all three season of TanksAsia will compete for the opportunity to represent their countries in the global Wargaming.net league. Details for the global Wargaming.net league will be announced later.
