New CA ERwin Release Bridges Gap Between Big Data and Traditional Data Sources

Industry-leading Data Modeling Solution Adds Big Data Platform Support, New Report Designer to Help Drive Governance and Business Intelligence Initiatives

MALAYSIA, Kuala Lumpur, November 21, 2013  – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced today announced a new release of CA ERwin CA ERwin® Data Modeler, the company’s industry-leading solution for collaboratively visualizing and managing business data across the enterprise in support of data governance, Big Data analytics, business intelligence and other initiatives.

Organizations face “information overload” as they struggle to manage more data across more platforms, and share that data with a growing number of users in a wider range of roles and skillsets. Data professionals look for better integration between diverse data sources, and to facilitate better communication between IT and the business.

With CA ERwin r9.5, data modeling effectively serves as a hub at the center of key data management initiatives. The new release includes support for Big Data technologies such as Apache Hadoop Hive, Cloudera and Google BigQuery, driving integration and a centralized view of both the traditional and newer data sources now impacting business decision-making.

“Today there are entirely new, non-conventional sources of information, such as Big Data, that factor into the business analysis equation, but determining the relevance and relative value of a given data element is exceptionally difficult,” said Al Hilwa, program director, Application Development Software, IDC. “CA ERwin enables organizations to quickly and easily connect the dots between their disparate data sources, giving them meaningful context that is critical to the success of their data management efforts.”

In addition, a new report designer in CA ERwin facilitates better visualization and sharing of information across the enterprise and among a broad range of both business and technical users.

“Competitive advantage can be gained from the effective management and analysis of a business’ complete data environment,” said Gonzalo Vallejo, chief data architect at Banco Estado, one of Chile’s largest banks. “CA ERwin provides critical management, analysis and reporting capabilities, such that all stakeholders – regardless of expertise – can visualize and collaborate on data-intensive initiatives at a much deeper level.”

CA ERwin can help provide trust and accountability for data, as well as better communication and increased agility.

The new release is also certified on the latest versions of Teradata, a leading database software application for data warehouses and analytic applications, including Big Data.  Teradata Corporation, a CA Technologies partner, offers a number of industry models based in CA ERwin.

“The rise of Big Data has driven discussion around the ‘three Vs’ of data – volume, velocity and variety – but the value and veracity of data is also critically important,” said James Forbes-May, vice president, Data Management, Asia Pacific, CA Technologies. “This latest release of CA ERwin facilitates that higher level of data analysis discussion and collaboration, providing a single, consistent view of information from all relevant sources – even as the data landscape continues to expand.”

CA ERwin Data Modeler is showcased during the fourth annual ERworld online conference, which features tracks, sessions and collaboration opportunities focused on maximizing the value of data modeling as the centerpiece of business-critical data management initiatives.  ERworld 2013 covers a variety of topics, including managing data models in the era of big data, successfully resolving data design challenges, and the keys to collaboration for big data, business intelligence, and data governance initiatives.
