Waze announces 1.5million active users in Malaysia, making it the most popular navigation app in the country

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 November 2013 - Today representatives from the social navigation system Waze (http://www.waze.com) visited Kuala Lumpur to update press on the mobile application’s local growth and thank drivers for helping Waze become the most popular navigation app in the region based on ranking in the App Store.

Senior Director of Communications Julie Mossler and senior technician Dror Cohen addressed a packed room as they shared the story of the growth of Waze in Malaysia:

Nearly 1.5 million active Malaysian users
Waze ranks as the most popular navigation app in the region (based on downloads in the App Store in Malaysia vs. other navigation apps)
The app is currently at #16 in all ranked categories in the AppStore in Malaysia
Malaysia ranks among the Top 15 largest Waze communities out of the nearly 200 countries it serves

At today’s event, Mossler announced that the Waze app, which was previously only available on iOS and Android phones, is now available for Windows based mobile phone users.

Mossler also announced a recent partnership with Astro Awani to incorporate Waze traffic data into their newscast. With the partnership, Astro Awani becomes the second international broadcast partner for Waze.

“The more drivers who use Waze, the more accurate and fast each route will be,” said Julie Mossler, Senior Director of Communications, Waze. “We are truly the people’s map, and we thank all of our Malaysian Wazers and map editors for truly embracing this technology, thereby helping their community and neighbors on the road.”

Waze is the trusted driving companion for every day and every route. Drivers passively contribute real-time data to the map just by driving with the Waze app open on their phone. The app then automatically reroutes other cars around accidents and heavy congestion. Drivers are able to select the fastest route easily, and voice navigation in local language gets them where they need to go, safely.

At the time of its acquisition by Google in June this year, Waze had more than 50 million drivers. The company continues to grow.

Waze is free to download – for more information, visit www.waze.com, the App Store or Android marketplace.
