“Mobile technology plays a huge role in almost everybody’s lives today to stay in touch with their loved ones as well as to keep themselves updated with local and global news.  As a mobile technology brand we see distinct synergies in collaborating with the state of Penang to provide them a cost-effective way through a mobile community created exclusively for Penang people,” Datuk Chai said.

“There are other upcoming collaborations with the State of Penang, which includes providing FREE Penang tourism information for selected tourist packs, FREE mobile Internet and extended validity for selected segments such as youth and senior citizens, as well as special call and SMS rates exclusively for the Penang people,” Datuk Chai added.

Penang Chief Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Lim Guan Eng said, “In our efforts to transform Penang into what it is today and to make it a better place, it is critical that we rely on savings and cost-cutting measures in our administration.  As such, the partnership offer from XOX Berhad is one very significant measure to not only cost saving, but also to build a closer link with the people in Penang.”

“The Penang State government has the capability to reach 200,000 individual Penang Rakyat through direct SMS within the first year of this partnership with a total estimated 2.27million SMSes to be sent out,” Yang Amat Berhormat Lim Guan Eng added.

The service from XOX is offered for free and will enable the Penang State government to save a great amount in expenses, which is estimated to be RM180,000 a year.

“By creating a Penang mobile community through this partnership, I believe all Penangites can be kept well informed about latest developments and announcements concerning their homeland, and stay connected with each other as well as with the state government,” says Mr. Ng Kok Heng, Group CEO, XOX Berhad.

Established in 2005, XOX has been listed on the Malaysian stock market since the middle of 2011.  The company builds on its existing platform with differentiated services and content, while adopting a holistic approach with value added services for its subscribers.
