New Nikon 1 S2 impresses with intelligible and trendy features to capture striking images

A lightweight and vibrant-colored interchangeable lens camera with simple, intuitive operations to capture images as a user sees them. 

MALAYSIA - Nikon Malaysia Sdn Bhd is pleased to announce the release of the new Nikon 1 S2, the latest addition to the S series of Nikon 1 advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses to encourage new forms of imaging expression.

Nikon 1 S2 is developed for those using an advanced camera with interchangeable lenses for the first time. The S2 captures beautiful images with its simple operation and performance of tracking of moving subjects that exceeds that of digital SLR cameras. It also features a variety of functions within its compact and lightweight body, offering superior portability.

The Nikon 1 S2 is equipped with 135 densely packed focus points and also boasts the world's fastest*1 high-speed continuous shooting rate of approximately 20 frames per second (fps) with autofocus (AF) tracking. This allows a fast and accurate focus acquisition even with a moving subject. With 14.2-million pixels count, a super high-speed AF CMOS sensor without a low-pass filter, the latest EXPEED 4A image-processing engine, and support for a broad range of sensitivities from ISO 200 to 12800, the S2 is capable of capturing sharp and clear images of minimal noise, even in dark environments.

Along with an intuitive and clear graphical user interface, the S2 also comes equipped with a Creative Palette that allows users to freely change imaging effects with a simple operation of the rotary multi selector. Movie functions comprising recording support of 1920 × 1080/60p Full-HD movies, Auto Image Capture during movie recording, as well as new advanced movie functions such as Fast Motion, Jump Cut, and 4-second Movie, are included to inspire creativity.

The seamless exterior inherited from Nikon 1 S1 has also been stylishly refined in a slimmer and lighter body with the color of distinct yellow, in addition to the standard white, black, and red.

Primary Features

Superior performance with 20fps to track moving subjects
At approximately 20 fps, the S2 achieves the world's fastest*2 continuous shooting rate with AF tracking. The combination of a shorter shooting time lag, ultra-high-speed AF and continuous shooting allow an optimal response for captures of subject movement or fleeting expressions. The Best Moment Capture mode further complements the S2 and its user by gauging the best time to press the shutter-release button.

High-quality still images of 14.2-million pixels and 1920 × 1080/60p Full-HD movies
– Equipped with an effective pixel count of 14.2-million pixels, a super high-speed AF CMOS sensor designed without a low-pass filter, and the latest EXPEED 4A image-processing engine

The S2 captures images in excellent detail and minimal noise over an extensive range from ISO 200 to 12800. It is also equipped with a noise-reduction function that minimizes noise, even when shooting in dark surroundings, by taking multiple shots that are then combined to create a single photo.

– 1920 × 1080/60p Full-HD movie with built-in vibration reduction function
A 1920 × 1080/60p Full-HD movie recording up to approximately 10 minutes in length is supported by the S2. The electronic vibration reduction (e-VR) function built into the camera further helps in the movie processing by reducing the effects of camera shake that occurs during the recording.

Innovative variety of movie recording and editing functions
– Auto Image Capture during movie recording
During movie recording, the camera automatically records full-sized still images without interruption. A maximum number of 10 photos can be taken during a single movie recording. The Advanced Movie mode allows users to record in movie exposure modes of [P], [S], [A], or [M], while a number of convenient recording and editing functions have also been added, including:

Fast Motion: Fast-motion movies playback approximately one quarter of the normal recording time.
Jump Cut: Recording pauses every other second for a drop-frame effect.
4-second Movie: Recording automatically stops after four seconds. This creates a short movie suitable for posting on social networking services and the likes. Up to eight clips can be joined into a single movie using the Combine 4-second Movies option in the playback menu. Movies created using the 4-second Movie can be transferred to or shared with a smart device via Wi-Fi connection when the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a (available separately) is connected to the camera.

Intuitive operation and simple shooting functions
– Feature menu
By simply pressing the feature button on the multi selector during shooting or with image playback, detailed settings for quick adjustments are displayed.

– Creative Palette
Users can preview creative effects such as brightness, vividness, and white balance in real time by simply rotating the multi selector. Images exhibiting the desired results can then be captured by simply pressing the shutter-release button when the preview display reflects the user's preference.

– Creative mode for selecting an effect or scene
By specifying an effect prior to shooting, users can easily enjoy a variety of forms of expression. The sample images provide a preview of the current settings’ effects for verification prior to shooting.

A compact and lightweight body available in a variety of distinct colors
 The S2 offers portability with a compact body that has been refined for a more elegant design. In addition to the colors of white, black, and red, the S2 is also available in a new, attractive yellow. Lenses sold as part of the lens kits are of the same color as the camera body. This color coordination provides an integrated look despite the use of interchangeable lenses.
