MIMOS成功轉型一周年

MIMOS MARKS FIRST YEAR TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY

Kuala Lumpur, 5 June 2007 – MIMOS today marked its first year journey, since a corporate restructuring exercise, as part of its efforts to steer MIMOS into the premier applied research centre in frontier technologies for Malaysia.

MIMOS corporate restructuring efforts, which centred around people and technology development, began with the appointment of Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah as President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2006.

People development focused on capability building and a shift in mindset. Towards this end, MIMOS put in place Strategic Advanced Technology Roadmap for Innovative Applications (SATRIA) Leadership Core Values, and adopted People Capability Maturity Model (PCMM) and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi).

It also included positioning new and existing personnel with vast industry experience in strategic positions; re-aligning MIMOSians into the right skill sets and technology areas; developing MIMOSians into ‘mental warriors’ and putting in place a strategic framework, stringent documentation and best-in-class process controls and methodologies such as Six Sigma to ensure organizational excellence for MIMOS.

Technological development included the realignment of MIMOS applied research areas in line with the Government’s mandate: to support the national agenda by supporting technology development within the industry while serving the nation and preparing MIMOS to be a global player.
MIMOS held a Gala Dinner in appreciation and recognition of all MIMOS employees to mark MIMOS’ first year transformation in its efforts to become the premier applied research centre in frontier technologies.
“While we are encouraged by the hard work, perseverance and dedication of all MIMOSians over the last one year, MIMOS will not rest on its laurels,” said MIMOS President & CEO, Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah.

“We will continue to strive together as one team with one common goal and direction to achieve MIMOS’ vision of becoming the premier applied research centre in frontier technologies to bring about new and commercially applicable technologies that seed the growth of the indigenous industries,” added Dato’ Wahab.

Encouraging innovation, Nurturing creativity and Rewarding resourcefulness
MIMOS continues to undertake world-class applied research in disciplines which are from the cutting-edge of information and communications technology (ICT) and science conducted by world-class research teams made up of a cosmopolitan and international mix. For example, a Chief Scientist, who will be instrumental in the international transfer of knowledge, has been identified from Europe.

“The culture at the newly transformed MIMOS is one that encourages innovation, nurtures creativity and rewards resourcefulness,” said Dato’ Wahab.

In line with this, MIMOS made intellectual property (IP) generation a critical key performance indicator (KPI) for all MIMOS staff. The collective effort within MIMOS is to see an explosion of innovation and invention in frontier technologies in line with the Government’s aim of taking the country to new heights of science and technology innovation.

MIMOS’ high achievers and long-service individuals are given due recognition and citations for example through MIMOS internal IP Reward Scheme which offers cash for patents disclosed and filed.

Global preferred and trusted gateway of choice for frontier technologies
MIMOS together-as-one-team culture extends to strategic and smart partnerships with like-minded and spirited multinational corporations, research organizations and educational institutions.

To date MIMOS has established linkages with various renowned global research institutions including Korea-based Electronics & Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), and Taiwan-based Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

MIMOS is also working closely with the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) through a partnership with International Development Bank (IDB) and United National Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UNGAID).

Impact of MIMOS Innovations
The newly transformed MIMOS’ ultimate task is to ensure that its innovations positively impact the Malaysian society and economy as a whole in line with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation’s vision of ‘Knowledge Creation, Wealth Creation and Societal Well-being’.

“Ultimately we want MIMOS to be a shining representative of the ICT cluster; and to be seen as a strategic agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in driving ICT research to grow the indigenous industry. MIMOS wants to be recognized as one of the world-renowned applied research institutions,” Dato’ Wahab said.
