TM's One-Millionth Broadband Customer Celebrates


There’s two one in a million: Iskandar Syah Ismail, TM’s one-millionth broadband customer meets Suki, 8TV’s One-in-a-Million winner, in a special meet-up organised by Telekom Malaysia Bhd at Menara TM.








Telekom Malaysia (TM) reached a pivotal milestone when it hit its’ one-millionth broadband customer recently. To celebrate the occasion, TM feted its one-millionth customer with a surprise breakfast treat with Suki, the winner of ‘One-in-a-Million’, 8TV's reality talent show at TM's Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. Not forgetting its loyal customers, who have been subscribing to the service since its introduction back in 2001, TM also recognized and rewarded its Most Loyal Streamyx Customer at the same time.

“By signing up our one-millionth broadband customer, TM has shown that it is on track in its commitment to provide broadband Internet access to all Malaysians, as set under the National Broadband Plan and the MyICMS886 strategy. We want to encourage Malaysians to adopt the digital lifestyle by making broadband accessible, affordable, attractive and ubiquitous to them,” said Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Business, Telekom Malaysia Berhad.

“This milestone also builds on the momentum since the recent launch of our Streamyx 4.0Mbps package, as well as the extension of the areas of coverage for Streamyx 2.0Mbps. With the roll out of this package, we now provide the fastest broadband service in Malaysia, and our one-millionth customer is proof that we also have the largest customer base as well,” he said.

In addition to the breakfast treat, 31-year old Iskandar Syah Bin Ismail, the one-millionth broadband customer was awarded with a HP Compaq Presario V3314 Series laptop worth RM2,500.

“I must say the feeling is very surreal and it never occurred to me that I’ll be chosen as the one millionth subscriber. I often do plenty of online research and reading, and started my Internet voyage by first subscribing to Streamyx hotspot service. Since using it for several months, I find it very convenient, as there are numerous hotspots around the city. Then about three weeks ago, given that I’ll be furthering my studies, I decided to subscribe to the Streamyx 1.0 Mbps package for home. For me, it was my initial experience using the service plus the added convenience offered by TM that further encouraged me to subscribe,” said Iskandar.

Meanwhile, 28-year old Ng Win Wei, the Most Loyal Streamyx Customer also received a similar HP Compaq Presario laptop plus additional goodies from the Streamyx Rewards Programme’s participating partners. These rewards include RM200 pre-reload in PosPay account, Commerce Takaful Berhad Accidental Death & Disability insurance coverage for six months worth RM20,000, a three-month Fitness First gym membership worth RM900, a one-year subscription to O-Health Magazine and American Home Assurance Company, Malaysia (A member of American International Group, Inc) personal accident coverage up to RM100,000 for 12 months.

“I'm pleasantly surprised. I definitely did not expect this to happen. I only found out that I was chosen as the Most Loyal Streamyx Customer when I arrived at Menara TM this morning. I’ve been using Streamyx since it was first introduced and continuously upgraded my connection speed with the introduction of new packages. As a student, I was already using TM Net’s dial-up services back in 1998. I have had consistently good experience with Streamyx service and from their customer support. The recognition of Streamyx as the premier broadband service provider has made me a fervent and loyal subscriber,” he said.

Introduced in April 2001, Streamyx reached its 100,000th customer in December 2003 and hit the half a millionth broadband customer mark at the end of 2005.
