HP Unveils Server Designed for Growing Businesses in Asia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12, 2007 – HP today introduced a new server designed to deliver optimal outcomes for businesses in Asia experiencing rapid growth.

Available exclusively in Asia Pacific countries and powered by the new Dual Core and Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processors, the HP ProLiant DL180 server offers maximum performance while controlling costs, with the lowest cost per gigabit (Gb) of data in its class.

As part of the growing family of servers developed in Asia for the Asian markets, the HP ProLiant DL180 features essential management and redundancy and sufficient power to handle complex business requirements. Its new 2U chassis and the 2Gb DIMM memory option kit are specifically designed to support the computing needs of growing businesses.

In addition, the server meets the needs of network service providers looking to manage the networking, gaming, mail and messaging, file and print and data storage applications of their customers.

“The new HP ProLiant DL180 is designed for growth,” said Vincent Lee, Country Business Manager, Industry Standard Servers, Technology Solutions Group. “HP has invested in building -- from the ground up -- a server packed with innovation, rich features and power efficiency built on industry standards with the objective of meeting the needs of growing businesses in Asia. It is the ideal platform for customers that are looking to grow beyond the capabilities of a distributed, tower-server based environment, offering all the efficiencies of a rack server while maintaining the economics of a tower server.”

The HP ProLiant DL180 comes equipped with essential management features allowing network administrators to easily check and update servers from a remote location.

“Growing businesses in Asia have to ensure consistent business performance supported by a reliable and cost-effective technology solution,” said Tim Bailey, director of product marketing, Server Platforms Group, Intel Asia Pacific. “Dual Core and Quad Core Intel® Xeon® processor technology integrated with HP ProLiant DL180 offers a powerful combination available at a competitive price with more than enough throughput for data processing.”

HP has maintained its leadership position in the x86 server shipments in Asia Pacific and Japan and in unit shipment terms for the 20th consecutive quarter since the second quarter of 2002, capturing 29.6 percent market share in the first quarter of 2007, according to industry analyst firm IDC.(1)
