HP Rewards Malaysians in Conjunction With Country’s 50th Merdeka Celebration

KUALA LUMPUR, August 30, 2007 – HP Malaysia today announced that it has rolled out several programmes to coincide with the country’s 50th Merdeka celebrations. One of the programmes, dubbed the HP Merdeka competition, will provide an opportunity for Malaysians to share their experiences about Merdeka via photo submissions. Meanwhile, the HP Volunteer Programme will allow HP employees to contribute back to the local community by participating in activities aimed at benefiting charitable organizations.

For two months beginning 31 August, HP Malaysia will organize the HP Merdeka competition which carries the theme of “Celebrating Life with Technology”. Malaysians from all walks of life are encouraged to submit photos that depict their perspective of how technology has contributed towards the country’s social and economic progress over the last 50 years.
Ten most popular photos from each week over a five-week period will be selected, and the final 50 photos will win various prizes worth a total of more than RM80,000 with the new Proton Persona offered as the grand prize. For more information about this competition, log on to http://www.hpmerdeka.com/.

“HP is well aware of the importance of technology and the positive impact it has brought to the country and its citizens. Thus, we want to encourage all Malaysians to share their perspective of how technology has made a difference in Malaysia as well as in their lives,” said TF Chong, Managing Director, HP Malaysia. “A picture says a thousand words, and in this case we really want our fellow citizens to tell their story via an image that holds special significance for them.”
The HP Malaysia Volunteer Programme, on the other hand, allows HP employees to offer a day to participate in a charitable activity. At least five charitable organizations will be identified for HP employees to “adopt” for a day. The respective charitable organizations will then be asked to compile a wish list that HP employees will try to fulfil. To date, approximately 200 HP Malaysia employees have volunteered their time for this programme.

“As an organization, HP Malaysia has benefited immensely from our customers’ support over the last 30 years. This volunteer programme which is closely linked to our CSR initiative is one way of showing our appreciation and contributing back to the local community,” said Chong.
Apart from the two programmes mentioned, HP Malaysia is also rewarding its customers via several other marketing-related initiatives that are currently ongoing. This includes the ProLiant Server Promotion where customers stand a chance to win one of 50 prizes including a 52-inch plasma TV. The value of prizes up for grabs is worth a total of RM100,000.

Another is the Gemilang 50 Promotion where customers are entitled to redeem petrol vouchers worth RM200 for the purchase of selected HP Business notebooks. In addition, there are also 50 Gemilang prizes to be given away for every 50th redemption made by a customer.
