Malaysia Hardcopy Peripherals: 1H 2007 Market Revenue touched US$141 million, grew 28% from 1H 2006
Kuala Lumpur, 21st Sept 2007 – Despite the healthy revenue growth of 28% in 1H 2007, the Malaysia hardcopy peripherals market also experienced a double digit growth in volume to 591,108 units, increased by 8.65 percentage-points to account for 16.6%. According to IDC recent study on the HCP market, the trend has not deviate much from 2006 where the multifunction printer segment, in particularly the Inkjet multifunction remains the main driver for both the vigorous revenue and volume growth. A detailed breakdown by technology of the Malaysia Hardcopy Peripherals Market (HCP) is showed as below:

The main intuition behind such cannibalization would be the convergence of the price gap between the two technologies, inkjet single function and multifunction. A simple illustration would be the cheapest inkjet MFP could cost around RM 500 back in 2005 and today, end-users can purchase the same printer with extra features like wireless with just RM200.
Besides the findings on the inkjet market, Ms Annie added that, “Many vendors are starting to pay more focus on the laser multifunction printer. When the inkjet market has becoming more saturated, it is a no surprise for vendors to venture into another market that promises potential revenue growth. This is in consistent with IDC latest research where it observed a close to 40% volume growth from the same period in 2006 with revenue contributed more than a 40% market share of the total Malaysia hardcopy peripherals market in 1st half of 2007.
