Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Pizza Hut Restaurants Sdn Bhd (Pizza Hut) recently announced the winners of the “Surf and Win” contest. The jointly held contest is a result of a partnership formed in March 2007 to provide wireless broadband service through Streamyx Hotspot to more than 100 Pizza Hut outlets nationwide.

Participants of the “Surf and Win” contest were challenged to accumulate the longest duration of time they logged-on to Streamyx Hotspot service at any participating Pizza Hut restaurants from 20th March to 19 June. The contest was open to all new and existing BlueHyppo members and Streamyx Hotspot customers.

The winner of the contest was Tee Wee Jean, who clocked in a total of 1,188 hours throughout the 3-month contest period. Second prize went to Khoo Wei Yik, who recorded 573 hours, while the third prize went to Chin Poh Seng, who logged in for 486 hours.

Each of the winners took home various prizes, plus a combination of Pizza Hut and TM merchandise. First prize winner, Tee took home a FTEC W2 Series notebook; second prize winner, Khoo won a Hewlett-Packard iPaq PDA phone while third prize winner, Chin won an Apple iPod Nano. Each winner also took home a Logitech webcam, a RM50 Pizza Hut meal voucher; Streamyx Hotspot prepaid cards and other premium items from TM.

A ceremony was held recently at Pizza Hut Maju Junction restaurant to fete the winners and present the prizes to them. Low Kang Moon, Deputy General Manager, Marketing, Pizza Hut Restaurants Sdn Bhd and Khaidhir Elias, General Manager, IP Services, TM Retail were present to jointly congratulate and present the prizes to the top three winners.

Khaidhir said the number of entries and total accumulated logged-in hours by all participants proved that the partnership was a success while simultaneously confirming the fact that Malaysians are ready to fully embrace the digital lifestyle.

“The tie-up with Pizza Hut means a lot to us because it’s the largest pizza chain in the country. With this partnership, we now have more than 1,200 Streamyx Hotspot locations nationwide. Our aim is to reduce the digital divide, and with Streamyx Hotspot made available nationwide at various F&B outlets, universities, hotel and petrol kiosks, we are ensuring that broadband access is available at some of the most popular hangouts. This ongoing initiative in extending broadband access complements our locally develop content, products and services like the iTalk Buddy, an instant messaging application; and Hypp.TV, TM’s video content portal,” Khaidhir explained.

“Having wireless broadband access at Pizza Hut brings tremendous value to our customers, as it gives them the option to dine and go online at the same time, thus making each minute of their time spent more productive, relaxing and enjoyable,” said Low.

In addition to the “Surf And Win” contest, a series of roadshow events were also held at various Pizza Hut restaurants in the Klang Valley, namely Kajang Drive-Thru, Kepong Drive-Thru, Kota Damansara and Wangsa Maju. Each roadshow stop had provided opportunities for customers and public to understand and experience the convenience of Streamyx Hotspot service.

Laptops were made available for the public to surf for free and to try out the various other TM service offerings. There were also prepaid cards & merchandise for sale, Streamyx demonstration booths and free Streamyx Hotspot service.

The Streamyx Hotspot service at participating Pizza Hut restaurants can be accessed through any laptop, PDA or other mobile device compatible with the 802.11b wireless LAN standard. Users need only to open their web browser and key-in their Streamyx Hotspot username and password, which is on the prepaid card, they purchase. Once connected, users can enjoy true broadband speeds of up to 384kbps and 100% mobility within the range of the access point.

New Streamyx customers can sign-up for unlimited Streamyx Hotspot access for an additional RM15 to their monthly subscription fees, while existing customers can subscribe to the service for an additional RM18 per month.
