Juniper Networks Introduces High-Capacity Comprehensive Video Monitoring and Analysis System

Router-Integrated StreamScope eRM Improves the Scale, Performance and Reliability of Video Monitoring; Enables Reduced Total Cost of Ownership through Operational Efficiency

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, April 14, 2009 -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today introduced StreamScope™ eRM, an integrated video monitoring and analysis solution for its M and MX Series routers.

StreamScope eRM enables network operators to perform deep, application-layer video stream quality monitoring within edge routing infrastructure, which improves performance and scale, and can lower total cost of ownership (TCO) through simplified network design and operations—with increased power and space efficiency.

The ability to monitor and analyze MPEG streams in real-time is critical to ensuring the quality of video services over cable, wireless and IPTV networks.

Traditionally, comprehensive video monitoring functionality required dedicated appliances that are challenging to implement cost-efficiently without compromising performance, scale or network operations. By fully integrating comprehensive video monitoring capabilities within the high-performance Juniper Networks M and MX Series platforms and JUNOS software, StreamScope eRM eliminates the need for video monitoring specific appliances—and greatly improves the performance, reliability and scalability of video monitoring solutions.

"The increasing prominence of IP transport in video delivery networks creates new challenges around quality assurance," said Ian Olgeirson, senior analyst, SNL Kagan. "It's absolutely crucial that operators ensure the high value of content for which they are being paid a premium without adding undue complexity to the network."

Developed using Juniper's Partner Solution Development Platform (PDSP), the StreamScope eRM offering builds upon the technology of Triveni Digital, a leading provider of digital signal monitoring and analysis solutions and subsidiary of LG Electronics (LGE), to deliver a comprehensive MPEG analysis solution that is qualified, sold and supported by Juniper Networks.

Juniper Networks PSDP enables customers and partners to develop specialized, value-added applications on its best-in-class JUNOS Software. These specialized applications can be used in individual customers' networks or, as in the case of StreamScope eRM, sold and supported as Juniper product offerings after undergoing extensive validation testing by Juniper Networks.
By delivering applications that are tightly integrated with JUNOS and run directly on Juniper routing platforms, the PSDP enables customers to purchase a broader portfolio of end-to-end solutions through Juniper's direct and indirect channels.

"Service providers need to be more proactive at managing high-bandwidth video traffic, and the integration of video analysis and monitoring into routing platforms can accomplish this with maximum scale and performance," said Ray Mota, chief research officer, Synergy Research Group.

"In addition, this announcement exemplifies the value of Juniper's PSDP to provide customers with offerings that are built on best-in-class technology, fully integrated with the router infrastructure, and delivered at the right time to meet market demands."

StreamScope eRM will be supported on both M Series and MX Series routers, and is an important element of Juniper's Intelligent Sevices Edge portfolio, which leverages Juniper Networks' unmatched architectural integrity to support flexible services and service velocity, with enhanced operational efficiency.

This comprehensive router integrated video analysis capability uniquely enables StreamScope eRM to rapidly identify potential quality issues at multiple levels, from the network layer through the MPEG layer.

Because StreamScope eRM can be seamlessly integrated into existing Juniper routers, customers will be able to leverage deployed M and MX Series platforms to deliver integrated video monitoring and analysis capabilities, providing investment protection and lower TCO, while ensuring superior scalability.

With support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links, StreamScope eRM is offered with up to 10 times the scalability of many typical video monitoring appliances. Additionally, the tight coupling with JUNOS forwarding and control planes ensures simple, unified device and network management.
"Video monitoring is an increasingly critical capability for cable operators and IPTV and wireless providers, as customer expectations for high-quality video entertainment continue to grow," said Wan Ahmad Kamal, Juniper Networks Malaysia Country Manager.

"By increasing the scalability, performance and efficiency of video monitoring and driving down TCO, StreamScope eRM raises the bar for video assurance solutions; and is a powerful testament to the open innovation fostered by our Partner Solution Development Platform."
StreamScope eRM is expected to be available as an optional feature for the MX and M Series in 2H09.
