MIMOS與SCAN合作銷售MIMOS研發成果

COLLABORATION BETWEEN SCAN & MIMOS SEALED

Kuala Lumpur, November 30, 2007 – Following negotiations on a synergistic collaboration, MESDAQ-listed SCAN Associates Berhad (SCAN) today announced the agreement with MIMOS to become the first technology business partner to further develop and commercialise MIMOS’ research technologies. The collaboration between SCAN and MIMOS was marked through an exchange of documents ceremony held during the launch of the National Innovation Conferences and Exhibitions (NICE) 2007 at the PWTC, marking it as one of the best turnaround initiatives in developing and promoting the local IT industry. Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who launched the NICE 2007, together with Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Dato’ Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis, witnessed the exchange of documents.

The mutually beneficial collaboration will allow MIMOS to concentrate on its continuous research and development of the products while SCAN to focus on distributing and marketing of the same. These products will involve those from the Cyber Security product portfolio researched and developed by MIMOS, primarily Secure Electronic Document System (SEDS), and Certificate Authority Engine for MyKad, or CA4MyKad.

SEDS manages the end-to-end lifecycle of information management, even archived information, and is particularly useful for large organisations which look into total solutions for managing sensitive information within their organisation. These solutions can also be tailor-made to suit the respective organisation's workflow of their info-structure.

SEDS, whose application mainly complements some of SCAN’s core security technologies such as MatrixNet and TRUSTMatrix, will be commercialised and re-branded by SCAN to target not just enterprises but also mobile platforms or devices. Both MatrixNet and TRUSTMatrix have provided margins of at least 30% in past financial years for SCAN.

“We expect that SEDS will be commercialised at the beginning of 2008. There has been strong interest from a number of our clients both locally and overseas regarding the product. Therefore, we plan to also licence the solution to our partners overseas for their domestic purposes,” said Encik Aminuddin Baki Esa, Group Chief Executive Officer of SCAN.

Royalties received from SCAN’s partners is expected to add to the Group’s bottom line in the form of recurring income. The pricing structure is currently being finalised by SCAN and will depend on the info-structure which the client wishes to secure.

The other product to be commercialised by SCAN, CA4MyKad, is a digital certificate technology which can be embedded in each smart ID card (MyKad). The technology can potentially turn the MyKad into a tool for secure electronic transactions by authenticating transacting parties’ signatures over the Web. Potential applications from CA4MyKad include lodging police reports, online transactions as well as sending and receiving confidential documents.

“This partnership between SCAN and MIMOS will have spill-over effects of more strategic collaborations between both parties. SCAN plans to continuously commercialise other technologies from MIMOS as well as provide technology enhancement to these products via our own R&D Centre. In the meantime, we are confident that the commercialisation of both SEDS and CA4MyKad will contribute positively to SCAN's future revenue and profitability,” added Encik Aminuddin.

At the event, SCAN was represented by its Deputy Chairman, Lt. Gen. (R) Raja Dato' Abdul Rashid bin Raja Badiozaman and Encik Aminuddin. Meanwhile, MIMOS was represented by its Chairman, Datuk Shahril bin Shamsuddin and its President & Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Abdul Wahab bin Abdullah.

SCAN was recommended by MIMOS to MOSTI following a strict selection process based on its strengths in R&D, its business and technological focus, as well as its global presence. Being a leader in the local ICT security market, SCAN’s Managed Security Services business model in both the domestic and international markets is in line with the National Mission of adding value to the ICT and services sector.

Home-grown SCAN provides essential support to the national ICT agenda via its end-to-end solutions to private and public sectors covering a broad range of segments. These include ICT security applications development, ICT security applications software packages, ICT security consultancy, ICT security systems integration, provision of outsourcing services or MSS, and provision of maintenance and ICT security training services. It was listed on the Mesdaq market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in October 2006, raising the highest value of funds in the Mesdaq market in the process.
