馬來西亞EMC獲39新客戶

39 NEW MALAYSIAN CUSTOMERS ENTRUST EMC WITH THEIR BUSINESS-CRITICAL INFORMATION

KUALA LUMPUR – March 18, 2008 – EMC Computer Systems (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., the Malaysian arm of EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced today that in 2007, 39 new customers in Malaysia, including Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad, Berjaya General Insurance Berhad, Tenaga National Berhad, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and Axis Computer Sdn. Bhd. chose EMC’s technology to manage their business-critical information.

Peter Goh, Managing Director, EMC Malaysia, said, “2007 was a record year for EMC Corporation. We saw full-year revenues of $13.23 billion globally and 18 consecutive quarters of double-digit year-over-year revenue growth with Q4 2007.”

“This was a challenging year for us – according to IDC’s Q4 2007 Asia/Pacific Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, the expenditure on total external storage systems in Malaysia declined by 0.7% year-on-year in 2007. Despite this flat market, EMC’s broad portfolio of solutions combined with a committed team, helped us capture market share and retain our leadership in both the mid-range and high-end external storage markets,” he elaborated.

IDC’s Q4 2007 Asia/Pacific Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker states that EMC had 52.8% market share in revenue terms in high-end external storage in 2007 while its next closest competitor saw its year-on-year revenues in the same segment drop by 72.8%.

In the mid-range external storage market, the same IDC report shows that EMC retained its No. 1 position with 25.3% of the market share in revenue terms.

“We are seeing a clear trend among Malaysian mid-tier organizations to invest in best-of-breed technologies to develop their information infrastructure and secure business critical information. This is also supported by the fact that most of our 39 new customers in 2007 came from the mid-tier sector,” Goh elaborated.

Last year, EMC noted ongoing investment by Malaysian corporations in their business continuity plans and in backup, recovery and archiving solutions - a continuation of the 2006 trend, which began when several states throughout Malaysia were struck by floods that caused severe disruption of business operations.

“Businesses in Malaysia are increasingly realizing that information could be both a liability and an asset. To manage this risk and to balance the ability to recover within an acceptable window, while keeping the cost down, organizations are now paying even more attention to their backup, recovery and archiving efforts,” said Goh.

In 2008, EMC is well positioned in the areas where IT spending will grow the fastest in Malaysia – telecommunications, FSI, manufacturing industry and public sector where there’s ever growing demand for information infrastructure solutions that can support new and innovative services that these industries have become synonymous with, while ensuring efficiencies and high profit margins.

The mid-range market will be another important sector for EMC in 2008. For mid-range customers EMC will, this year, actively bring forward the recently introduced CLARiiON AX4 mid-range system that plays very well in this market. CLARiiON AX4 is highly flexible, available and scalable storage area network (SAN) system for small and medium businesses (SMBs). It can easily be deployed, expanded and reconfigured in VMware Infrastructure and traditional IT environments with no application downtime. It can scale to 60 terabytes of capacity and supports either iSCSI or Fibre Channel SAN connectivity.
