World Cyber Games bets on HP ProCurve Networking

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 21 July 2008 – For the fourth consecutive year, HP ProCurve Networking, the network of choice for the World Cyber Games (WCG), will design and build a high performance, reliable and highly available network capable of supporting the intense, real-time and demanding competitive environment of the WCG Singapore Finals and Asian Championship.

WCG is the premier, global video game tournament, supported by millions of gaming professionals, enthusiasts and fans worldwide. The Singapore Finals and Asian Championship will be held in Singapore from 7 to 10 August.

A ProCurve 8212zl core switch lies at the heart of the WCG network which is designed to handle streaming video and audio, VoIP, intrusion security, Quality of Service, latency and most of all, about 1,000 highly charged, competitive cyber gamers – possibly the most demanding class of users.

HP ProCurve will deliver a trusted network infrastructure based on its ProActive Defense solution. With this solution, the WCG network will be immune to threats and will protect data and users’ integrity. In addition it will also be defended from virus and worm attacks through ProCurve Network Immunity Manager and HP-developed Virus Throttling technology.

“HP ProCurve is proud to be the network provider to the World Cyber Games for four years in a row. This global event with millions of supporters online and real-time provides a transparent demonstration of the reliability, security and high performance of ProCurve’s adaptive network solution. We expect the demanding, compute-intensive environment of this premier competition to put our network to some rigorous tests,” said Louis Au, HP ProCurve Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan.

The HP ProCurve adaptive network will provide high bandwidth to support the compute-intensive gaming applications and meet stringent requirements for a competitive gaming environment for performance, availability and powerful security.
