EMC Wins 75 New Customers in Malaysia in 2008

Helps enterprises and growing companies accelerate growthand improve operational efficiencies

KUALA LUMPUR – February 24, 2009 – EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today highlighted its 2008 business performance and outlined a four-pronged go-to-market strategy to help organizations and growing companies in Malaysia accelerate growth and improve operational efficiencies in the current macroeconomic climate.

The strategy will also help EMC extend its leadership position in the global total addressable information infrastructure market, which is expected to cross US$73 billion by 2010, according to EMC estimates.

According to IDC*, EMC ranks number two amongst storage vendors in Malaysia from January to September 2008 with a total of 22.6% market share in the US$36 million market.

Peter Goh, EMC’s Country Manager for Malaysia said: “In 2008, 75 new customers in Malaysia chose EMC to manage and safeguard their business-critical information. These include Air Asia, AMBank, Kuwait Finance House, Iskandar Investment, the Johor State Government, Lembaga Kumajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM), the World Health Organization, Nomura Malaysia, Penang Adventist Hospital, Sime Solution Center, Amway and Eastman Chemicals.”

In 2008, EMC Corporation posted total global consolidated revenues of a record US$14.88 billion, an increase of 12 percent year-over-year, and representing EMC’s sixth consecutive year of double-digit annual revenue growth.

“In 2008, we saw Malaysian companies invest in content management and archiving solutions and security solutions. This trend was driven by the ever-growing number of transactions companies must track and preserve, compliance with regulatory authorities, and protecting data from theft and misuse.” said Goh.

“We remain intensely focused on customers’ top priorities in 2009– saving money, attaining a faster ROI, reducing risk and preparing for the delivery of next-generation data centers. We also remain committed to investing heavily in research and development to extend our technology lead and maintain rapid product rollout cycles. More than ever, our technology development is occurring in Asia, so we are very proud of the role we play for the corporation” he added.

EMC has noted that in the prevailing economic climate, more large companies and SMBs are also increasingly focused on solutions and services that help them improve operational efficiencies to maintain a competitive edge.

“We believe that going forward, EMC’s four-pronged strategy will help these companies prepare themselves for growth when the economy turns around,” said Goh.
1. Market Segmentation
In addition to the enterprise information storage solutions space, EMC is also now focused on mid-sized and growing businesses to extend their solutions and services to a wider set of customers.

For the enterprise space, EMC is focused on meeting customers’ priorities in the areas of:
· Efficiency
· Information Governance and Compliance
· Virtualization

EMC also announced that it would conduct a six-country road show to educate the market on EMC’s enterprise-class technology and solutions that are suited for their needs.

2. Technology Priorities
EMC has identified the following as technology priorities that will help customers achieve operational efficiencies and business values for their organizations:
· Information Consolidation
· Tiered Storage
· Solid State Drives in storage arrays
· Virtualization
· Backup with Data De-duplication
· Archiving
· Information Security
· Data Centre Automation
· Enterprise Content Management
· Consulting Services
· Cloud Computing

These enhanced hardware and software solutions as well as services are targeted at growing businesses to large enterprises across target verticals.

3. Partners & Alliances
EMC’s partner community in South Asia, currently numbering more than 300, contributes to about 60% of the organization’s revenue stream across the region. EMC is aggressively empowering its network of partners through a series of enablement programs and workshops to help them generate additional revenue streams.

In addition, EMC’s series of partner programs provides both enterprises as well as mid-sized and growing businesses more varied options of customized solutions and services.

EMC has also recently announced the extension of its strategic alliances with DELL and Microsoft

The DELL/EMC alliance, extended through 2013, is the most successful relationship of its kind in the industry and reinforces the commitment of both companies to uninterrupted collaboration and cooperation. Since the relationship was formed in 2001, more than 60,000 Dell/EMC networked storage systems have shipped to tens of thousands of customers and EMC has maintained its storage lead, while Dell has become the fastest growing storage provider. With the extension, Dell and EMC will also add the EMC Celerra NX4 storage system to the portfolio of Dell EMC networked storage systems.

EMC and Microsoft Corp. have also recently announced a three-year extension of their strategic alliance through 2011. The two companies are committing to broader and deeper product interoperability and service delivery to address key customer requirements including virtualization, security and content management through the powerful combination of Microsoft's data center solutions and productivity applications with EMC's information infrastructure solutions and consultancy. As a result, joint customers will benefit from more productive and less costly dynamic IT infrastructures that can effectively respond to today's rapidly changing business requirements and economic constraints.

4. Executive Briefing Centre (EBC)
The Executive Briefing Centre (EBC) in Singapore, opened in early 2009, is the latest to join the EMC’s network of successful EBCs in the US, Ireland and Japan, which have welcomed more than 300,000 people since the EBC program started in 1994.

Uniquely co-located alongside EMC’s South Asia Development Lab (SADL), the EBC helps EMC and its partners shorten sales campaign, drives incremental revenue, helps sell high value business solutions spanning EMC’s information infrastructure portfolio, promotes thought leadership and builds relationships with EMC customers and partners.

In addition, customers can get a glimpse into the future of their business at the EBC through SADL, which conducts the IT industry’s most rigorous, end-to-end interoperability and integration testing, spanning every major server platform, infrastructure software component and networking element, advancements in product realization, engineering, manufacturing and value and supply chain techniques, tools and technologies.

These strategies complement previous announcements by EMC to invest more than US$1.7 billion across Asia Pacific and Japan to strengthen EMC’s product innovation and development, customer support as well as go-to-market capabilities in the region by 2012.
