Samsung’s Multi-Platform Communication Service Allows Multimedia Sharing Anytime, Anywhere

SEOUL, Korea – 21 October 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced the market launch of ChatON, a free mobile communication service that allows users to communicate instantly with all their mobile phones.

ChatON provides users with a simple way to communicate with friends and family anywhere in the world, regardless of device platform. It enables users to communicate in multiple ways, allowing multimedia content and animated messages, as well as more conventional instant messages, to be shared with friends and family.

Today, Samsung launches the ChatON service, which will be available worldwide. Users are able to download ChatON for free through Samsung Apps or Android MarketTM and use it on various mobile devices, including Samsung GALAXY SII. ChatON will also be preloaded on to bada smartphones and selective feature phones from Samsung starting October, and will be available for other platforms gradually by the end of 2011.

“After launching in September, ChatON enjoyed a positive response at IFA 2011. Many of the visitors to our booth were excited to experience ChatON and responded very positively while using it,” said Kang Min Lee, Senior Vice President of Media Solutions Center at Samsung Electronics, “Through its multi-platform and global availability, ChatON heralds a new age of mobile communication.”

Using ChatON’s unique functionality lets users create their own animated message by scribbling text while adding audio and choosing their background picture. Additionally, each conversation window features a Trunk documenting all multimedia items sent and received through the conversation.

ChatON’s functionality across multiple platforms lets all users join in, with content in multiple formats shared instantly. Features such as Group Chat and Interaction Rank allow users to take further control of their social network.

Interestingly, ChatON offers an interactive experience at its microsite (http://www.chaton.com/chataway). Customers can enjoy an HD quality interactive movie experience called “Chataway”, involving making decisions for and choosing the lead character’s path. This film acts as a guide for ChatON, helping users to understand the software and how to use it.
