Alcatel-Lucent Celebrates the Contribution of Women Employees

March 13, 2012 – Kuala Lumpur. More than 50 women employees from Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia gathered at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur recently to celebrate International Women’s Day. Among the various activities for the day, attendees also took the opportunity to share experiences about their careers, personal accomplishments and aspirations for the future.

Mohd Fazlin Shah Mohd Salleh, President and Managing Director for Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia, in his address to the attendees, acknowledged the significant contributions made by women employees and noted that the company is committed to support their career aspirations.

Dr Haniza Yon, Cluster Head and Research Director of Psychometrics Cluster, MIMOS Berhad was a guest speaker at the session. She spoke about her career as a psychometrician and about the experience of being a successful career woman in a field largely dominated by men.Mohd Fazlin Shah Mohd Salleh, President and Managing Director, Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia.

“We recognize the achievements of the women in ALU, and we acknowledge the significant contributions you have made to the company. Each of you have made a difference in your own way. There is no “glass ceiling” in this organization and the sky’s the limit. Continue to challenge yourself and push for greater success in your career.”

Dr Haniza Yon, Research Director of Psychometrics Cluster, MIMOS.

“The definition of success is different for each woman. It is not always about having a bigger office, or a bigger pay cheque. One must know what one really wants and then go all out in order to achieve it. Women should feel confident that they can be as successful in their jobs as men. Recognition by employers is also a major factor in developing confidence in employees.

Hew Ling Chee, Network Design Division, Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia.

“Women leaders need to work harder as compared to men. I started as a junior network engineer in Alcatel-Lucent in 2006, and I was working with male leaders who were old enough to be my father! I worked hard and as time went by they came to respect and recognize my work. Alcatel-Lucent has given me the flexibility and the opportunity to learn and that’s why I have stayed here for 6 years.”

Pauline Goh, Senior Account Manager, Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia.

“As women, sometimes we can be very critical of other womenfolk. We should however be supportive and give other women an opportunity to be leaders. It is very important that we should have the confidence to take on bigger and greater roles. I believe that we should connect, communicate and network with our colleagues in order to grow and gain recognition within the organization.”
