Maxis Berhad (‘Maxis’), Malaysia’s leading integrated communications service provider, continues to enhance the lives of its customers with the most diverse suite of applications (Apps) designed to add real value, while enhancing customers’ overall smartphone experience. Maxis is currently the leader in the local telco industry in offering the widest range of localised Apps in the market, with 20 free Apps that appeal to different segments and target groups that are available across smart devices such as iPhones, Androids and tablets. In an Experiential Tour held today at Menara Maxis for the Media, exclusive Maxis Apps were showcased, which included the latest App, Maxis Roam. All of the apps highlight content & utility apps that enhance the smart device experience.

“Maxis currently leads in the mobile content sphere with a non-voice revenue percentage of 43.5% of mobile revenue and over 8 million mobile internet and wireless broadband customers as at 31 December 2011, which represent almost 50% of our entire customer base. This signals the fact that more and more of our customers have transitioned from using their devices purely for voice to more non-voice usages such as data and mobile internet. With our Maxis Apps, we are providing customers with added value that will make their mobile experience even more exciting,” he said.
Maxis Apps are available for iPad, iPhone and Android devices. With apps that span entertainment, tools and utilities, travel and leisure, lifestyle, sports, navigation, news, personal bill management and even rewards available for Maxis customers, there is something for everyone.
With the 2012 Formula One season just around the corner, Maxis has also recently updated its latest Maxis F1 App for Formula One fans, featuring detailed information for all the races with exclusive live commentary, top stories, results, schedule, standings, drivers, teams, circuit info, and many more.
Currently, the top three Maxis Apps most popular with customers include Maxis Movies, Maxis F1 and Maxis Customer Service. These Apps have garnered much popularity in terms of downloads in the past 6 months, with Maxis Movies registering more than 100,000 downloads, Maxis F1 with over 40,000 and Maxis Customer Service app with over 25,000.
Other apps in Maxis’ suite of offerings include Maxis BPL, Maxis WiFi, Maxis Roam, Maxis ONEMusic, Maxis PayPal, Maxis Mobile Speed Test, Maxis Holidays, Maxis Currency Converter, Maxis Rewards, Maxis QR, and FINDER301, which is the first app in the world to feature Wikitude Augmented Reality technology on the FINDER301 application for iPhone and Android smartphones.
As a traveler’s companion, the latest Maxis Roam App automatically detects your location and provides with you with the best data and call rates for the country you are in. The Roam 120 Quick List also allows customers to add their favorite “Call home” numbers to the app for easy and cheaper call home rates. Customers can sign up for special data plans, subject to location, and continue to stay connected with their iPhone while travelling.

Maxis also places great emphasis in collaborating with both local and international partners to bring these innovative applications to its customers.
“We are particularly pleased to help to nurture the Malaysian App development ecosystem by partnering with local developers. With the exception of one, all Maxis apps have been developed by Malaysian developers. Currently, we are working with Infindo, Red Ant and Studio 212, to develop the Maxis Application range. At Maxis, our support of local developers extends to the Maxis Mobile Content Challenge, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Communications and Culture and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
The development of Maxis apps has also enabled Maxis to strengthen our partnership with international brands. “We have teamed up with international partners such as PayPal to enable customers to conveniently perform payments in just two clicks via web and mobile. Maxis’ collaboration with PayPal was a world's first, involving a mobile network operator and a leading global online payment service provider,” Kugan concluded.
